Konica actually did remake their similarly ‘bad lens’ lol which also happens to be a f1.2 (Hexanon 60mm) and now costs the same as the noctilux f1.2 remake. No one has called it inferior and it’s still fairly popular in the used market today.

... i think it is a completely different lens.
the 1.2 is the same - but it is 20% longer.
and the shortest distance was also better at 80cm?

but we are deviating - i did not intend to write about the lens market.
but about a LEGEND that was a disappointment.
others had better at the time of the LEGEND.

the only thing that is legendary is the price that is being asked for the old lens these days.

I suspect getting the 50/1.2 out into peoples hands will ultimately end up being good for 50/0.95 sales.

If it ever gets in peoples hands.  Not a single lens has found its way to the States yet.   With no word or info on when

Yes, 200 silver ones.

I hope the black is unlimited though I took note that Leica Store Konstanz seem to have it put as limited to 1800. It's a good idea to make a collectors item for the serious collectors and one unlimited edition for us commoners.

So it is kind of confirmed by leica Germany official info that the black version is limited to 1800? But why those dealer in Boston said leica will continuously produce it...seems quite confusing, but anway, even 1800 is a big enough number, which may not make the price too high?

"The Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2 ASPH will start shipping soon for a price of $7,695 for the black anodized version. This variant of the lens will be available going forward as a standard serialized production item in the Leica Classics Range."

Yeah I've seen lots of dealers saying it's limited to 1800 units for the black version.

I had dealers showing me internal sales documents (that they got from official leica dealers) with the lens information and in those brochures it had limited to 1800 copies. But a dealer also told me that originally the APO 50 BC was also limited but then they produced more due to demand so it wasn’t really limited in the end huh?! They’re guessing that this kind of communications to the public is to not give the wrong impression that it is a limited edition and they will produce more if they want to. Anyway that’s just what I was told by the dealers, can’t confirm if it’s true or not.

More importantly, when are they coming?! Lol I can’t wait to shoot with one :D

Confusing.  I'll blame Covid 😛

I noticed one on the RedDotForum live stream the other day.  So hopefully not too long now.

I think they were refering to the 1757 units originally made back in the old days. What I understand is that the black version is now standard issue and part of the classic range, while the silver version is limited to 100 units. So, no need to run. Just hurry... 😉

yep, 99% of us would be better served buying the Voigtlander 50/1.2

Both of you are missing the whole point of producing old design lenses like the noctilux f1.2.

Anyone has the finest idea whats going on with the production? I pre ordered a black before Christmas and paid a deposit - they still have no indication when they will get any deliveries.

What availability do you see?

availability is a question mark! especially if I consider that I had given a deposit in early September for the silver chrome version in a Leica store ... despite this, now they ( Leica local dealer ) say the chrome version is no longer even conceivable to have it for a somewhat improvised Leica  policy in my opinion. So , few days ago, I hijacked the choice on the black version, reluctantly, but for now I'm still confidently waiting . I'm actually very patient! I have no choice !

That is very disappointing! I hope the store hasn't let you down, as having a order in with a deposit that early they should have secured the lens you want by ordering themselves somehow. Of course, at that time Leica would not officially admit to the lens coming .

I would certainly take the issue up with the main Leica base for your Region, or directly with Wetzlar, stressing the date that your dealer took your deposit.

Best of luck!

I heard from my dealer there are just three chrome lenses coming to the UK.  No idea who will have them, but I guess they are all pre-sold.  I'm on the list for a black one and decided to pay up front to secure earliest delivery slot.  Don't know when that will be, but I am also patient!
