New Special Edition: The Leica M10-P "Reporter" in Kevlar Cover

Is $6,999 really plummeting?  That's about £5,600 in the UK, which is about the price of a used M10R here.  I would say the Reporter price is holding up well.

I don't have the M10-P Reporter but I did buy one of the first Q2 versions.  It's early days, but the kevlar is showing no signs of wear and still looks as it did when I purchased the camera.

That's 21% in what 18 months?  IDK, but it seems harsh.

The Q2 kevlar is probably an improved material after the evidence from the M was so overwhelmingly ill received.

I just bought a reporter and happy with the decision. $6750.  Although I was looking at one that sold a month prior for $7500.  So I think this was a good price

i’m not too concerned about the Kevlar and if it wears I think these cameras would look great with a black leather recovering.

Grahamc, can I see a photo of your newly found Reporter?

What a beauty, congratulations

The Kevlar looks great. From the pics that I saw in the advert of mine,  I think yours is holding up better than mine. But I’ll know this week when it arrives and post a pic

How do you feel about having bought into the 24Mp sensor at this point and not the 10R ?

I've shot mainly with an 18mp Canon 1DX for the past 7 years, so this is an upgrade.  That said, I did purchase an M10-R along with this body in order to make a comparison.  I did a lot of reading about the M11, and that sensor is not for me.  I will go out shooting with the Reporter this weekend and see what comparisons I can draw.

Hi@Summilux-asph

I really don't think anyone buying the reporter bought it because they have a vision of themselves elevated as a real Reporter because of it (or at least I hope they didn't!) .  If that's what you meant in terms of buying into the marketing :D

When the Reporter was released I was still smarting from a very deep score that the top plate of my 'soft' M10-D picked up, so one side of the marketing that I did buy into was the more hard-wearing finish .  I checked with a couple of forum owners for their opinion on the finish and they confirmed there seemed to be some sound basis to the claims.

But most of all I just really like the colour scheme they've used with the 10-P Reporter and think it's a really nice looking camera.  I'm happy enough with the sensor on my 10D that I'm happy to save a couple of grand versus the 10R BP, which was the other screen-M that I was considering.  From a practical standpoint I think I'd be happier with the Reporter day-to-day anyway as I always feel the need to be a little more careful with my Black Paint film camera versus other finishes I use (I know others don't).

I'm indifferent about the Kevlar - I think aesthetically it suits the camera but if it does indeed look like crap as it wears (which it could) then I think a leatherette will finish this camera beautifully, so I'm not too worried about it.   Of the pics you posted, I agree the Leitz Park one is awful.  As are the others but the cameras themselves are horrible enough to take my eye off the covers :P

I don't feel that way about the Reporter.   I think it and the 10-D, 10R BP are by far the nicest looking in the 10 line , personal preference of course.  I also like how it doesn't have leica logos splashed all over it - if I remember correctly it just has a subtle Made in Germany imprint as the only indicator.

If you are interested to check out a well-used one, there is an Instagram user called Danny Bligh who is a big Reporter fan (uses the 10-P and Q2 Reporters) - His 10-P version is now brassed and IMO looks great when aged.

Well, it's not all about the looks is it but it's certainly one of the many nice things about using Leica M  :D

Thanks.  I'd be interested to hear your feedback whenever you are ready.    As per the post above, I chose this time to get the 10-P versus 10R and save a little money.  I would've been hunting for a 10R BP if I had gone that route and figured I don't use my digital cameras enough to justify it.

Never say never though so would be helpful to get your thoughts on your 2 new cameras .  Have fun

That’s mine! It’s beautiful. People post pictures of their black MP Leicas and I always have to check the film advance to see if it’s the MP or the BP 10R.

Very nice. I'm sure it is !

Not sure how you are saving money by getting a Reporter.  A used R is easily a grand cheaper than a used Reporter.

These are from the 10-R. It has amazing highlight recovery, but it's hard to do that without over saturating. I know the Leica sensor is going to take some getting used to compared to Canon's.

From the Reporter at blue hour to try to highlight it's shortcomings.  I think it did very well.  I can get the images to where I need them to be in LR without really much sacrifice of quality.
