Information from Wetzlar about the hot/stuck pixel phenomenon of the Leica Q2 Monochrom at higher ISO values:
Leica has informed us that the problem has been identified and they are working on a software solution.
We have the following important information for you:

  • It is not necessary to send the camera in
  • A firmware update will probably be available in a few weeks with which a manual pixel mapping can be done.

So a little more patience please, solution is on its way ...

Thank you for the update! As expected, software/firmware related. Actually surprised by their reaction speed, I personally was not expecting to get any software updates till March at the earliest.

What a reassuring and absolute relief it is to learn this. Thanks to all who contributed to resolving this imaging anomaly and their patience throughout.

Hope everyone continues to enjoy these wonderful machines.

It may sound like a stupid question, but how do i install a software update on my Q2M?

Thanks Phil, appreciate this update.

I actually clicked on it a couple of times thinking it was a link, but I assume this was information passed on by Leica via email perhaps?

opps...sorry about - not intended 😁

Oh no worries. Sorry you had to endure the experience of waiting so long without your camera, but glad you were ultimately provided the answer we were all curious about. Hope it is back in your hands soon!

maybe by 1st week of March

...meanwhile, gives me time to catch on some reading (arrived yesterday)

I hope I can add some information to this issue although I do not own the Q2 Monochrome. I've been noticing some of the same "hot pixels" in my Leica Q, when shooting extreme black (like a grand piano) with "longer" exposure (1 sec on ISO 100) and only if I lift highlights, shadows, whites - stuff like that in Lightroom.

However, I recently realized this could have to do with the fact I was using the electronic shutter. I tested it today and noticed I can't reproduce the same issue with the electronic shutter off, with much longer exposure time. It wouldn't surprise me if this would be a similar issue with the Q2 monochrome.

Hope this helps.

That is something different, related to the long exposure. That is why many camera have LENR.

I have the same issue on my 2nd Q2 (not Monochrom) within a week of first purchase. I am waiting on a third camera and hopefully that will be better (only 2 spots on my 1st, 5 on my 2nd). Otherwise it looks like a hope that the firmware update mentioned will apply to the Q2 as well.

I had the same issue with my Q2! Leica fixed it within 2 weeks. My Nikon Z6ii allows me to start a pixelmapping process any time I like, hopefully Leica implements the same feature.

Agreed and thank you. Being in the UK, probably now means a much longer wait for me if the camera has to go back to Germany or I cannot get a clean third copy from the dealer this week and/or the firmware update does not apply to the Q2.
