European Leica stores seem to have their first few units in hand but my store hopes to see their first two units from leica USA in the next two weeks.  B&H says "new item, coming soon."    Please report success in meeting the new camera in the wild.

Picking mine up today, maybe. I’m still hesitating.
would anyone buy it from me 500 less if I don’t like it after two days ? 😂

Speak to @Chaemono.  He's a speed-dater.

Were you not negative about it during the rumors based on AF and lack of tilting screen? What changed your mind?

I havent changed my mind, this is why im hesitating. Lack of tilt screen is only an issue for me if I want to manual focus during video. The rest of the time I don't care. So both are linked.

There is supposed to be an update to the AF at some point.

What makes me hesitate is that 1. I am in search of the perfect hybrid and 2. I am still not 100% happy with the photos from my A7SIII with M lenses. When I compare them side by side with my M10R, its often very hard to tell which is which. But in real life use, there is some magic that happens with Leica. The photos are just nicer.

I see. I agree with you, there is definitely something about Leica in terms of enjoyment of the process and of the final outcome.

It might just be merely the image I see on the screen (the jpeg preview) that looks better but that its enough to make me enjoy the camera more. To be honest, ive managed to match the colours of the RAW files perfectly, what I could not do is get that 3D pop effect on the sony. Its what makes the biggest difference. Particularly on the Q and the SL.

As far as video is concerned though, the A7SIII blows the disgusting SL2. Its on par with the S1H though. I am hoping that the SL2S will have similar video as the S1H, but I guess trying is going to be the only way to know for myself on this one.
Thats why im considering to purchase it, and resell it a couple days later if I don't like it.

Yes, it makes sense. Have you also tested the S5?

Don't want to hijack the thread, but personally I have tried many cameras over the years and always get the best experience of using them with my Leicas, especially the S2-P and my original SL and M9. I would be prepared to buy the SL2-S from you if you did not like it, but I am looking for lighter cameras these days and also I am not sure if the Leica warranty is transferable, especially between countries (and we have the Brexit now).

I hope you enjoy your new camera, lets us know how it goes.

Deposit paid yesterday; first on the list in Beauly. I'm hoping it arrives before the year end hard Brexit chaos hits.

Looking forward to seeing live hi-res through my goto M lens the Voigtlander 40/1.2, with focus down to 0.5m.

My only doubt so far is the blocky noise reduction artifacts seen left of the tree on Leica's ISO 6400 milky-way .tif sample

Just spoke to Leica Manchester and they are expecting units on Monday, although think those are taken up by orders placed to date.

Also a number of sample images on DP Review - I've been broadly impressed with the file quality from the very (very!) brief look so far.

Red over saturated, right? I complained about this with my new Q2 on its day of release. Portraits looked just like this. It seemed to get resolved with later Firmware (Leica and/or Adobe LR). That being so, could this be whats happening in these shots?

Agreed - there were two portrait shots in that group which based upon the embedded profile being applied, made the poor folks look like me when I've just run up some stairs!

However, flip to adobe colour/standard and drop the red channel saturation and it wasn't TOO bad (your mileage may vary here!).

Bear in mind that is a pre-production model though, so could be firmware issues there that aren't seen in final production. LR hasn't updated to support it, so I'm assuming it is also applying a non-SL2-S profile to what is a new Leica sensor.

Adobe often implements upcoming Leica camera support before announcing it. The official support may include only updating the camera support document :).
