SiOnara Posted April 11, 2021 Share #24 Posted April 11, 2021 Just picked up the APO35SL. What a lens! Such a beautiful overall rendering and stellar performance to the corners. I’m blown away, even more than when I got the APO50M.
SiggiGun Posted April 11, 2021 Share #25 Posted April 11, 2021 After all what we heard the Apo35SL is a great lens. I had the privilege to play with the time of a weekend. Autofocus for wide angle is not a criteria for me. As a result, I will wait for the delivery of the Apo35M. I guess this will be a good compromise between size and image quality

I wanted a native SL lens and decided to go for the APO35SL as I already have the APO50M. Seemed like a good choice. It’s big and heavy compared to an M lens but worth it for the image quality. No regrets. 1

I just received the 35 GM and mounted it on the A1. Sure it can take nice photos. But not in this league. Thank you Steven, much obliged for your appreciation, and I do agree too

I'm also interested in the SL 35mm, but I want to get a better feel of how the lens can handle portraits without too much distortion. This "environmental portrait" looks very nice.

Both film and digital, but this lens on the SL2 has left me speechless.

Not surprising as I think shooting portraits at 35 mm is a matter of technique: In your photo, you are at a sufficient distance to avoid facial (especially nose) distortion. And by putting the camera at torso level, you avoid making the head too big (as it likely would if you were shooting at a higher angle). Your photo is a great example of why one would choose 35mm for an environmental portrait. (I really don't think 35mm is a good choice for most head-and-shoulder shots - but I would enjoy postings by others to prove me wrong!)

I think some on the forums just like to post that statement to counter-balance the 90% talk about gear on "gear forums" IMO. I own the A1 + new GM 35. I just bought the Leica SL2 and waiting for delivery and I've always wanted to try the MTF Monster, the highly regarded 35APO SL which is now on my short list. However if you already own both kits, and have the time, I'd like to see a direct comparison of the respective 35s. In another thread of course. As you now know, the new GM 35 is a stunning lens but we don't have the benefit of real MTFs from Sony like we do with Leica to match MTFs, but from what I see the GM is certainly up there in top IQ. Can it match the master SL 35 APO?
