I have something to learn about depth of field - shot a mite too wide open.

Back from a 2 week  Alaska trip.  Lots of rain ..  a bit chilly for August (It is Alaska after all ..  Fall up there already - leaves were starting to turn).  Had a great time ..  first photo stop was the Northwest Coast of Canada - Native Art and Totem Pole museum in Vancouver BC.   Leica T with 18-56

Definitely a macro shot.

FWIW, I uploaded this from the camera to my phone using the app (twice, once directly with the TL2 as client, and once across my home network), then transferred it via dropbox to my windows tablet, where I could resize it for posting here. It would have been easier to connect a cable from the camera to the tablet, but I wanted to check the process - which is clunky. If I wanted to use the phone for posting here I'd have to shoot only small jpgs, or find an app to resize images on the phone.

Paul,

Quite interesting exercise as I am investigating to acquire this macro-lens. I would use it for photographing small items: details on paintings, stamps, insects, small objects in general like rings, medals etc. Would it be possible for you to do me a favour and take a photograph of eg a stamp and publish it on the forum? Thank you very much and best regards.

- Yes  - I still have my XV - I intend to keep it forever!  However, I rarely use the XV  due to the wonderfulness and the interchangeable lenses with the T system.   I tend to use the T far more than the XV, ..but I still believe that  the XV can produce the best image of any 16 meg crop sensor camera ever made.

Cheers

Rick

Two macro shots, both ISO 100, f/4, 1/800s, No cropping or post processing (no sharpening or noise reduction).

I used AF in the macro range.

They are both just about as close as I could get.

The set up was just a tripod with the camera on an extension tube over the target on a table. Particularly on the the £10 note you can see that the two surfaces were not parallel

I'm a novice at macro, but I know that if I was doing this seriously I would use a better set up including a focusing rack. TBH I would probably use the Macro-Elmarit-R 100mm which allows, I think, more space in front of the lens.
