I would love to see linear throw as an option when focusing manually. I hate variable AF rates, and I don’t even shoot video. I would love to see the AF improvements from Panasonic’s latest camera. I would like an automated focus stacking routine.

Presumably that you don't have to crop in post.... Don't get me wrong, I am with you...it does not make sense to me to do when you can crop in post, but that requires you go in and crop every image to do it. It also means it is harder to compose, as your VF does not reflect the final image size. Same goes for jpegs. Perhaps if there was a setting to show the APS-C size in the main frame, like it used to be on for example a Hassleblad shooting 645, but the EVF's make that unnecessary. Basically, it is not a feature for me (or you, it sounds like), but it makes sense for certain people in certain situations, especially for video (where I have used it). jaapv Posted November 3, 2020 Share #23 Posted November 3, 2020 Let me quote the late Fritz Pölking: "wildlife photography is cropping photography" It is an illusion that you will get your framing right in the camera most of the time with wildlife, let alone birds in flight. You have to crop for the composition anyway, and a little bit of real estate extra on your image is only an advantage. Should we continue this discussion (most welcome) I'll have to split it off. Siran Posted November 3, 2020 Share #24 Posted November 3, 2020 Better AF. It’s disappointing at the moment. In terms of MF, focus peaking needs improving. Ability to change the colour of the focus point Better battery life

I hope someone in Wetzlar has stuck their hand up to say 'mea culpa', and admitted they screwed up this bit of the menu. SJH Posted November 4, 2020 Share #26 Posted November 4, 2020 It’s been covered fairly extensively in a previous thread I initiated but once the Panasonic's all receive their AF updates pre Christmas from the S5 I’d like Leica to get the SL2 off the bottom of the AF performance table for high end full frame camera’s. Again I’m not expecting A9ii or Canon R5 performance but being bottom, below an S5 or S1, is pretty poor really for a £5k camera. Also Leica should sort out the ridiculous battery warnings with both Leica and Sigma lenses that prevents 4K video and high FPS thereafter, why o why do you cripple the camera this way, everyone else lets you use these modes until the battery essentially fails. Overall though I really like the SL2 as it’s many other qualities, from build quality to menu’s and most importantly IQ, eclipse the competition.

When I take a photo and want to review it afterwards by zooming in, the point where the image is magnified is not where the original focus point was. So I have use the joy stick to scroll around the image to get to the point of focus. Oh and better ISO performance 🙂 Edited November 4, 2020 by Siran typo

Aktenschrank Posted November 26, 2020 Share #30 Posted November 26, 2020 More in-camera aspect ratios for preview, especially 4x5. Ideally one could enter custom aspect ratios as well, I for example use 1:1,688 quite a bit.
Eclectic Man Posted November 27, 2020 Share #31 Posted November 27, 2020 Agree with the above requests for linear manual focus option with L mount lenses, maybe with a visual alert for when you have exceeded the lenses mechanical infinity or near point focus setting. An auto-clean of the sensor on switching on using vibration, if that is compatible with the hardware. An option for the in camera image stabilisation setting when using a tripod to set to the sensor horizontal. Better AF with non-L mount lenses, especially Canon EF lenses using the sigma MC-21 adapter.
Dr. G Posted November 30, 2020 Share #32 Posted November 30, 2020 After a shoot this weekend I'm firmly in the "better AF" camp. Also, I will reiterate, depth of field preview in live view is something I would really like to see. I was doing location photography for press and social media with multiple people and not knowing my depth of field was forcing me to use apertures that were more stopped down than I would have liked since we were using available light. I was also doing product photography using a light tent and was consistently using f22 just to make sure I had everything in focus. We had time constraints so I had to hedge my bet on DOF rather than make the calculations as we went along. I would also love a more linear focus as I'm usually using manual focus when doing product photography. Focus bracketing would also help in that scenario, but I don't see that coming anytime soon. Joakim Posted December 2, 2020 Share #34 Posted December 2, 2020 And I forgot the most important one for me, to be able to manually set the focal length for IBIS so that it can be used for all lenses.
Greg Gray Posted December 2, 2020 Share #35 Posted December 2, 2020 I really wish I could select or create my own aspect ratios in photo mode. As a film maker this would allow me to preview and photograph many scenarios, especially when prepping in film production. Have managed to get dozens of SL owners/filmmakers to support me on this request, but Leica have not heard us....

FlashGordonPhotography Posted December 13, 2020 Share #38 Posted December 13, 2020 1. Longer exposures in multishot mode. 10 seconds would be fine. 30 would be ideal. With self timer as well. 2. Ability to allocate the playback function to another button (S1R allows this) they play button should be on the top right of any EVF camera. 3. Godox and Profoto compatible flash triggers. 4. S5 eye AF system. Gordon

RBB Posted December 15, 2020 Share #40 Posted December 15, 2020 Allow self timer combined with exposure bracketing. Disable the empty battery message for medium and high speed shooting, even when the battery is almost dead. ISO in 1/3 steps. Autofocus upgrade like the panasonic’s. Depth of field preview. Auto clean the sensor / vibration.
