lioness731 Posted November 10, 2020 Share #21  Posted November 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone used the Panasonic 24-105 on the Leica SL Typ 601? Does the OIS work? is there a firmware update needed? On my SL menu the image stabilization is greyed out?

caissa Posted November 10, 2020 Share #22  Posted November 10, 2020 For a while the Sigma 2.8/45mm was the cheapest available. Then came the Lumix 20-60mm which is quite small and light and inexpensive. But now come some interesting primes in the Lumix range: The first is the 1.8/85mm, but there will also be a 1.8/50 and 1.8/24. They are all three small and light with fast AF, and probably not very expensive (price not known, yet).

Always better to have both lens and body on the latest firmware available. 3 hours ago, caissa said: For a while the Sigma 2.8/45mm was the cheapest available. Yes, these three new Panasonic primes are going to be a boost for the L mount, the price is announced for the 85mm, here in UK £599, think we can expect them all to be in the same ballpark, as like the SL Summicrons they are going to be same size, body style etc.   Edited November 10, 2020 by Boojay

lioness731 Posted November 10, 2020 Share #25  Posted November 10, 2020 Lawrence_Lee thank you for response. I may need to adjust some settings then. I think my SL has the latest firmware but not certain of the Panny lens. I just noticed the menu option that refers to lens stabilization was greyed out and wondered if something was amiss. On the lens itself I have OIS engaged. 3 hours ago, lawrence_lee said: I use the Pana 24-105 on the SL Typ 601 ,and the OIS works fine. Here are examples Welcome, dear visitor! BernardC Posted November 10, 2020 Share #27 Â Posted November 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The menu option may be greyed-out because OIS is controlled by the switch on the lens. It would be confusing if the camera and lens were set differently.
caissa Posted November 10, 2020 Share #28  Posted November 10, 2020 (edited) Examples with the new 600$ 1.8/85mm. Very nice and small.   https://www.dpreview.com/samples/1933509135/panasonic-lumix-s-85mm-f1-8-initial-samples And a short video. He mentions that 4 compact lenses with f1.8 are to be expected: 24, 35, 50 and 85. Great! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vyenjNEbsqg  Edited November 10, 2020 by caissa

Hence the option isn't available in camera. Gordon

To check if OIS is working or not, try putting it on a tripod, focus on a distant object and watch to see if there is any movement in the EVF. If there is, then OIS is engaged (and getting confused by being held rigidly).

Haven't had much chance to test it out but I already like the close focusing ability. I also saw the Sigma 24, 35, and 60 lenses just got announced - https://www.dpreview.com/articles/5542474312/hands-on-with-new-sigma-35mm-and-65mm-f2-dg-dn-lenses?utm_source=self-desktop&utm_medium=marquee&utm_campaign=traffic_source These look very interesting! bherman01545 Posted December 3, 2020 Share #32 Â Posted December 3, 2020 I own an SL2, a 24-90 and an SL 35 APO Summicron. Those two are my 'bread and butter' lenses. I back-fill with Sigma for my lesser used lenses (for example) the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art Lens since Leica doesn't make a Macro in the native L mount. I also may consider one or more of the soon-to-be-released Sigma full frame primes (24, 35 and 65mm) Contemporary Line. IMO, the Panasonic 24-105 and Sigma 24-70 are supposed to be quite good, but the Leica SL 24-90 is in another league, especially on the SL2. That said, there is quite a difference in price, so only you can decide. -Brad
cboy Posted December 3, 2020 Share #33  Posted December 3, 2020 ^^ +1 to Sigma new I series lenses of 24-35-65mm to cover most  if not all of the OPs travel photo needs, apart from really shallow depth of field. But at f2 with a small formfactor then its a good compromise imho. The 45mm is already a fantastic travel lens when stopped down from f4 https://leicarumors.com/2020/12/01/sigma-announced-three-new-i-series-compact-prime-lenses-for-leica-l-mount.aspx/
_Michael Posted December 4, 2020 Share #34  Posted December 4, 2020 I am also interested in these new Sigma primes. What I’ve seen so far is quite impressive and I can see the 24 coming to my bag. That is I suppose for those times I can pry the amazing Summicron-SL 50 off the body  I like the Hugh Brownstone reviews, Three Blind Men and an Elephant.  Here is a newly released review on these upcoming options;
