What is your every day carry (EDC)?

Recommended Posts

Digital, usually M10 with 50 Summilux or 35 Summicron

Film, IIf Red Dial with 50 LTM collapsible Summicron or M6 with 50 DR Summicron with its spectacles removed.

As a collector, I have many cameras and I recently finished a roll of 127 film on a Nagel Vollenda with a 5cm f3.5 Leitz Compur Elmar. The camera folds into your pocket as it is the size of a slightly thicker smartphone.

Canon RP or Olympus E-PL1, or Leica M-E, or Nikkon EM or Leica IIIc or Nicca III. Might be something else. Depends how I feel.

I don't do pockets. Camera is on me, if I enter job or else, camera is in the bag.

M9 21/35/90 is my 'standard' set-up. Kept in a small zipped insert in the tatty old rucksack which I virtually always carry (including spare batteries and SD cards). I add more as required.

If we are considering non-photography-specific outings?

Every time I go out - even just heading to the corner shop - I will take the M-D Typ-262. It will usually have the 40mm f1.4 Voigtlander Nokton attached.

If I'm going further afield I'll also take the M Monochrom which normally sports the 28mm Elmarit asph.

Philip.

So, as the OP, I thought I should share my latest thoughts and update my EDC.  I kept going back and forth on this and I’ve settled on using my R8 w/Ilford HP5+, 35-70mm f4 Vario-R ROM, and a 50mm f2 Summicron- R ROM, all in a light canvas sling. Lighter, less expensive, simpler, somewhat more rugged and less battery dependent than my SL2 gear. I’m keeping my SL2 gear in my old Fogg bag ready for grab and go.

Interesting - I’ve come to the conclusion that I should go with a variation of this set up in the guise of a Q2. Same-ish size, same focal length, a tad faster, less expensive but IMHO same quality. Fortunately I can (and am) selling my SL 24-90 to fund the purchase - great and versatile lens, but a big brute that I dread carrying and for which I’ve got the focal lengths covered by equally good or better lenses.  Just have to stand in line for it to be restocked.

At one time it was the R6.2 and various lenses, then the M6 and 3 lenses. Digital came about and the X1, Xvario & V-Lux 4 & 40 in my car.. M-P240 Safari relegated the X1 & XVario to the camera cabinet.. After my accident,  I sold all my cameras, lenses & accessories, except the V-Lux 40.... Now my carry around is the D-Lux 7 & backed up with the Canon 90D + 2 zooms and a 28mm Pancake.  I'm very tempted by the Q2, but will resist as @ 78 years old I doubt I will be hopping around to much..   L

Sounds to me like you’re doing great - I’m 63 but hope I’m as spry as you at 78!
