MyLeicaWorld Posted July 23, 2020 Share #1  Posted July 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) After getting 35cron asph v1 and superelmar 21,  I decided to sell my 28 cron asph v2 and sold it a few months ago at the price I bought it 2 years ago.. But when I look back I saw my best photos were taken with it. Now I am seriously considering to get it back. I spoke with my dealer to trade my sem21 and cron 35 with brand new a demo 28 cron asph v2 with 2 years warranty without giving any money on my lenses. What do you think? Is it the right move? For me it is the right thing for me, because I understood that I am not that kind of person carrying 3 lenses and changing them all the time. Some can say "then go and get Q2" but M is my passion. And I have never experienced a lens like 28 cron before. The colors and the rendering is awesome. Can I learn your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Hi MyLeicaWorld, Take a look here Missing my summicron28 asph and considering to get it back... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted July 23, 2020 Share #2 Â Posted July 23, 2020 As side note, as I can't give you useful advices, wouldn't you regret the 21/35 combo, after a while... Another side note, I do own/use a good number (I don't know how many, this has no interest for me) of lenses, never feel to carry them ALL. I had sold so many lenses (and other gears) over time, many was replaced later but in most cases, I'm happy to have sold them. Â 1
colint544 Posted July 23, 2020 Share #3 Â Posted July 23, 2020 The 28 Summicron ASPH is a fantastic lens. I have the version 1, and I don't think I would ever want to sell it. I've sold Leica lenses in the past and regretted it. But selling your 21mm and 35mm lenses to get the 28mm back looks like quite a high price to pay. Me, I wouldn't miss the 21mm, but I'd definitely miss the 35mm. You'll get ten different answers, but only you can really know the best thing to do. A two lens combo is very flexible. A 28mm and 50mm are practically unbeatable as a pair. But then, if you're just out for the day and only want one lens, just a 35mm is great too. Tough choices. Good luck anyway! 2
RayD28 Posted July 23, 2020 Share #4  Posted July 23, 2020 I'd personally keep the 21 SEM and 35, but if I had to give up one of them it would be the 35.  You can find a clean 28mm 2.0 V1 for about $2,000.  Selling or trading the 35 gets you within a few hundred dollars for the V1.  You might even get a no-cash trade using the 35 for a 28 V1, but not from a dealer.  Ray
stephan54 Posted July 23, 2020 Share #5 Â Posted July 23, 2020 I was a great fan of the latest Elmarir, but decided to trade it in for the Summicron 28 v2. As sharp as the Elmarit, but I like the rendering/colours far better. If it was worth the extra money is an individual decision.

Jeff S Posted July 23, 2020 Share #7  Posted July 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have version 1 of both the 28 and 35 Summicron ASPH lenses, both of which work superbly well on my M10, M Monochrom, as they have on all my other Ms going back many years. My print sizes are modest by today’s monster standards, and viewers have no idea (nor do they care) what gear was used.  We are spoiled by good choices; the results are up to us. Thanks in advance. Can completely relate. My 28 Cron v.2 is a wonderful blend of Mandler/Karbe rendering, and much preferred over the 28 Lux which I had for a brief period. Really despised the busy bokeh of the 28 Lux and the horrible color fringing, the polar opposite of the 28 Cron. The Cron is smooth with more than enough sharpness, without the high contrast delivered by the Lux. Colors are rich and tonal gradations are beautiful. The 28 Cron v.2 and 50 Lux Asph are the reasons I have stuck with the M. No other lenses render like this pair. 5

FDS Posted July 23, 2020 Share #10  Posted July 23, 2020 I have the 28 Summicron version 2 and it is my most used lens as it reflects how I am ‘seeing’ with regard to my main ongoing projects these days.  I’m very happy with the optics and I am a ‘pixel-peeper’, too.   When travelling it pairs well with the 50 Apo and also with the 21.   Also, I find there is a meaningful difference visually between the 28mm and 35mm perspectives, too.   So, what am I trying to say?  It’s an absolutely essential lens for me but not in isolation, either.  I Would hope that the OP can hang on to his 35 and 21 and ‘somehow beg, borrow or steal’  the 28.
ynp Posted July 23, 2020 Share #11  Posted July 23, 2020 I promised myself that I would never ever sell my M lenses again. I sold my  21 SEM and 35/2 ASPH and now I am left with the Konica 21-35 Dual Limited, a  very nice lens, but obviously no  Leica.

No, it’s no Zeiss and it’s a Konica M-Hexanon Limited 21-35mm f3,4-4,0 Dual Lens. It means it has two fixed focal lengths. I love it, it’s more convenient than Leica triple lengths lenses, I have it set at 35mm most of the time for travel and when I need it, I have the 21 mm. on the wide end. 😀   Welcome, dear visitor! farnz Posted July 23, 2020 Share #20  Posted July 23, 2020 I replaced my 28/2.8 Elmarit asph v1 with a 28 Summicron v1 many years ago and was very impressed with its 'smoothness', its flare-resistance, and its micro-contrast.  I foolishly convinced myself that I could do without it and traded it several years ago on my f1 Noctilux, which I don't regret. I filled the gap with a CV 28/1.9, which is a good lens but just not a Summicron, which I badly missed so I understand your dilemma.  Just before lockdown I found a 28/2 Summicron v1 in silver chrome and I will not be parting with it. Whatever you need to do, get another 28 Summicron because you clearly won't be happy until you do (do you really need to keep all your children? ).  If you can find a way to keep your 21 and 35 then all the better. Pete.
