Gee, I didn't get the letter of introduction from the new Leica USA CEO or a store evening invite.  I guess I'm just not a member of the aspirational class.

You don't need to aspire, Scott: you've made it!

I regularly get emails from Leica US, including this one, but don’t know exactly why.  Could be related to info provided to Leica from the site (Owners’ area), Service records, ordering hard copy camera manual, or one instance having new gear sent directly from Leica NJ rather than from the dealer retail location.

Anything else you would like to brag about? I think you miss to mention what underwear brand you use.

I didn't include "bragging" about working for years, sometimes not getting paid and investing to create and grow a business that now employees other people and provides me and my family with a nice living. The risk is still there, but the rewards have finally started to come consistently. I was not happy with my previous career of 17 years working for a family business that was a world leader in manufacturing commercial photographic processing equipment which went out of business 24 years ago.

I had the guts, work ethic, vision and a little savings to make a mid-career change with a pregnant wife at home who stopped working to raise our children who are now successful adults. If you are not happy with your situation or jealous of the success of others, maybe you should make a change instead of trolling strangers on the Internet forums?

Bud James

I think what he was pointing out was that to bring up your purchase of an expensive car across different threads is off topic and in poor taste. I personally believe it may be inferred that members active on a forum for a luxury product such as ones made by Leica are particularly well-heeled and comfortable financially, and comments such as yours come across as "humblebragging" or an attempt at a downward projection of your wealth to those less fortunate.

That being said, I will acknowledge that one of my biggest faults is being judgmental, and I am happy to hear your hard work and willingness to take a risk paid off for you quite literally; Congratulations to you on your success in life.

Now, as for the M10-R, I think I've decided on trading in my Q2 so I can grab the 50mm APO Summicron as well that I've been hearing so much about. I was considering selling my M10-P Safari, but the thought of having an extra body is appealing.

That was exact my point, way too much unnecesary information, and I got a warning for "abusive behavior" for expressing myself.

I'm pleased to see that both cost-conscious and cost-insensitive photographers contribute to this forum.  But contributing to the forum should be sharing information about the cameras and lenses or photography in general,  not so much about ourselves, although some of that inevitably comes out.

In fact... I am actually extremely happy with my situation, I travel the world with my wife, I just turn 50, easily put 2-hour rides on my bike everyday, and my job (I am my own boss) allows me to do my living from home, what else not to like? there are other things in life beyond cars and cameras (which I also have btw).

Trust me, I don't envy you at all. 😉

All the impetus in the last 10 years has been to push Leica as a 'Lifestyle Premium Brand' rather than solid German engineering and technology excellence.

£7.1k for a manual camera with zero advantage over the rest of the competition puts it firmly in the 'desire to own' rather than the 'desire to use' category.

Even for someone as financially incontinent and irrational when it comes to spending as me, this is a bridge too far.......

That's the problem with these kind of invitation only events, they alienate as many customers as they please when word gets around.
