Vietnam was also fine. Took some 400 ASA for months with me around Asia/Pacific. Even 500T wasn't a problem. Just my 2 cents. Was that going through the new scanner type? I haven't looked for a while because I've probably a good 5 years worth in the fridge, but I had a look on behalf of a young lady today and couldn't believe it. Where do people in the UK buy reasonably priced film nowadays? She wants colour print. Pete Fujifilm & Kodak in particular are pushing their costs up. I just bite the bullet and prefer to buy film from smaller and independent camera dealers such as So Perfect Images, Mathers, Carmarthen Cameras, Silverprint, Clifton Cameras, First Call, Speed Graphic etc.

craigr Posted May 24, 2020 Share #44 Posted May 24, 2020 Putting prices in perspective: In 1972 I bought my first Leica, a used M4 with 50mm Summicron -- both in beautiful condition but several years old. The price for the combo was $850. -- a lot of money for me back then. In fact, inflation calculators say that $850 in 1972 currency translates to around $5,300 today. Recently, I purchased a n newly overhauled and upgraded "near mint" M2 for a little less than $1,500 and added a beautiful, nearly flawless 2nd generation 50 mm Summicron for $495 plus $80 for a CLA; the grand total being $2,075. I can interpret that as a virtual saving of $3,225 over my equivalent outlay in '72. Sure, one can argue about the possible greater value of the M4 in terms of component aging in the M2 and the fact that the M4 was "more advanced" than the M2 at the time, but still, I consider my recent acquisition a good buy if not a bargain. It is certainly true that used Leica film gear prices are quite a bit higher than Nikon and Canon costs and even more dramatically dear than prices of, say, Olympus or Pentax shooters. That's a market demand phenomenon. The re-birth of interest in film photography is the driving force. New 35mm film cameras are very scarce with -- I believe -- Nikon and Leica producing one model each. As we know, the M-A body alone is $5,200. A Nikon F6 body is about half that, but still... Predictably, good used 35 mm cameras are sought after with some -- such as precision hand-built Leicas -- especially prized. Overpriced? Well, maybe, but....
Yaakov Posted May 24, 2020 Share #45 Posted May 24, 2020 They is also the "cool" factor look for any Leica camera in YouTube in you will find dozens of reviews from the last 6 months, people are going mad after theses cameras just checked today didn't see anything under 2K for a M6 in eBay, which I would avoid if i was to make such a purchase
