haikos Posted March 27, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone, I have a question about the dimensions of the Leica 11310 lens with the (square) hood mounted, I think the model is 12524 and/or 12526. Currently, I use a Biogon 2/35 which I love but sometimes I find the lens protrusion from camera body quite long. The lens alone protrudes 1.75" from the camera body; with the UV filter and hood mounted, it protrudes to 2.4375" (7/16) from the camera body which is fine in some situations but unwieldy in others. The hood and UV filter are used to protect from bumps. I had the chance to mount an 11310 to my camera which seems to protrude about an inch from the body but at the time the vendor did not have the hood so I had no way of even guesstimating where it would end up. Can anyone who has this lens + hood combo provide a measurement?
Advertisement Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Hi haikos, Take a look here Dimensions of 35mm Summicron-M v4 WITH lens hood. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DwF Posted March 27, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2020 I would say eyeballing w tape measure, it protrudes from the M body an inch and 3/4. That is for v4 w rectangular hood. I don't think any other lens will be as compact, save maybe the CV 35mm Nokton w hood. David

haikos Posted March 27, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted March 27, 2020 Thank you both for the quick replies, very appreciated. Is it safe to assume the 11310 lens will most likely flare easily without a hood? If it matters, I only have a film M. Thanks!
lct Posted March 27, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 27, 2020 Besides adapted lenses, i only have 3 shorter lenses i believe, Summicron-C 40/2, M-Rokkor 40/2 and CV 21/4 but the Summicron-M 35/2 v4 it is my shorter 35 i suspect. The stock hood will only reduce flare marginally but it protects very well the front element. I would not grab the lens by the hood though as the lens does not like that much. DwF Posted March 27, 2020 Share #7 Posted March 27, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) For me the v4 has handled light quite well, and I always use the hood on that one just cuz, -as cute as it looks without the hood, it feels like my bald(ing)-assed head on a rainy day. So the hood stays on! I saw a thread on another site showing lots of flare using the v5 asph. I hardly recall an issue with that lens either when I had it. Here is a relatively recent situation where the light was intense. It looks like I situated myself to mitigate flare but also a good vantage point for the shot. i include it here because I like the way the v4 handled this light. David Welcome, dear visitor! Nice to hear that, I am happy to provide some up-lift to someones day, as I am pretty isolated here. And thanks, re photo. I have to say the v4 constantly surprises me at what it can do. I've come to shoot more with 50s in the past 4 years but my 35mm 'cron might be the deserted island lens! ....well for landscapes there's that v4 28. Agh! Truth to tell I'll never get out the door
Stein K S Posted March 29, 2020 Share #10 Posted March 29, 2020 Hi The 35 cron v4 only becomes nicer and nicer 😉 My copy of this lens can definitely flare. But this do not bother me much really. Hoods are used more for weather protection. Talking about size, the 12504 vented metal Hood in the picture below can possibly beat the original sqaure plastic hood by a mm or so in total lenght (I measure total lenght of appr 41mm).. protrudes less or differently due to its cut-outs… and looks better. The honest observation though is that the original square plastic Hood offers the better light ¨protection¨ and also the most efficient bump protection. Welcome, dear visitor!
