Let me interject some other positive  thoughts into this thread. I just bought the legendary vintage Nikon F2SB and shot a few rolls. The  test photos came back fine but it was hard to focus and get the exposure set even though I have used a Nikkormat FTN since 1971. This is  a much longer experience than  with Leica!!!

For comparison, I pulled out  my MP and shot a roll with my lux.  It was like an old friend. Easy to focus and and find the correct exposure even on two moving kittens in low light.

FYI when I first got the MP I had problems with the film not loading right and it took awhile to get used to the "quick load system". I lost two rolls due to the learning curve. Also forgot to turn off the meter by turning the shutter to B/OFF and used up batteries too fast. Now I love the quick load and never forget to shut down the meter (batteries are not easy to find).

I think MP for mechanical perfection is well earned even if I wish the ASA dial were metal:)

Hey man, unfortunately, Master Lo is moving office now, So he won't have time to fully disassembly until early March, so in short, not yet :(

I called the repair shop and they told me they are unable to locate the issue and need to send the camera back to Germany.  I’ll take the camera back as I have a coming trip next week. I’ll have to live with this issue (the scratch is less visible if scanned with a digital camera) for now. I’ll check again when I’m back from my trip. Hope master Lo can fix your camera so I don’t need to send mine back to Germany :)

Damn, we both ended up having to have our cameras sent back to Germany.  I haven't had mine for a couple weeks now 😕  Not sure when it's coming back.

Just got a brand new M-A after seeing all these posts and having issues with my brand new MP purchased earlier this year I thought no way the M-A would have any issues. Manufactured December 2019, I am guessing it is the Most recent batch. The M-A is scratching the negatives. It can be heard when the film is wound back, I ran a few tests and sure enough scratches all across the negatives. Can’t say I am surprised. Nothing that Leica won’t fix but I am surprised at the quality of these cameras out of the box.

Try think on the bright side, at least you didn’t “waste” a few more weeks with a local repair shop and end up sending the camera back to Germany all the same.

I have no complaints about the repair shop though. They are reputable and experienced. They confirmed the pressure plate works fine (the common reason for scratches). They worry they’ll jeopardize my warranty.

update, just got the MP back from master Lo today, he said the scratching film issue is fixed, it was caused by poor assembly.

However I am yet to test it, will let you know once I finished a roll of film.

So I tested 1 roll of film, confirm Master Lo fixed the scratching film problem.

My MP just got back to me today.  Now might not be the best time to send it out because you might not get it back for awhile during the pandemic.  I was lucky to get mine back before things really started shutting down.  Leica USA is closed at least till April 6.

I’m having the same issue with a brand new MP from June’s 2029 batch, how much did you pay for the job, did he replace any part in the process?

Your camera is under warranty. Return it for fixing for free or replacement if it's brand new. Don't bother with third party repairs, because first of all why pay when you can have it done for free by the actual people that made it, and secondly why void the warranty?

Unfortunately I did not buy the camera locally, I purchase mine from an authorized dealer in Switzerland, import taxes and customs are extremely high in my country, you end up paying around %20 more, I can try sending it back but it’s going to be extremely expensive,  if they accept taking it back I’ll probably go that route, with the current situation sending a camera to Germany will probably take forever and there will not guarantee that the problem it’s solved

I think you will probably find that, because the camera is within the warranty period, Leica will pay courier fees. etc. Contact the authorized dealer in Switzerland from whom you purchased it. They will send you a UPS label.

Thank you Pete, I just wrote them an email, will keep posting here with progress, I think it is important to keep this kind of things in the open so that other people can have a look

So I did some checking and found that the cause it’s definitely the pressure plate I used a test roll which I marked in several place in order to track where the film was going, initially I suspected the scratches were made by the little bridge that supports the contact for the light meter but after looking with a light without the base plate it was obvious that that part doesn’t touch the film, the only part of the camera that touches the film is the pressure plate, I checked to see if a could feel any irregularities but it seam flat and smooth, I cut a little piece of film and started to rub it against the plate, the film got a lot of scratches, I did the same against the plate on my M2 the film came out clean

I did some prints and this is how the scratches show up on a 9x12 darkroom print.
