Hi Rob, beautiful mood in this picture !

What is your preferred focus method with your SL + S lenses ?

I'm trying to know if the AF option that is missing with my Pana S1R + S lenses is worth considering for landscape/casual use. If yes, it would be one more + point for the SL2 (there is not many + in my list 😉).

SaW,

I may usually will back focus, perhaps magnify the image, then snap if I'm comfortable that no manual adjustment is needed.  Or, I may rely on focus peaking and a high aperture.  (I really have no set routine).

I am quite happy with the S lenses on the SL.

I am also considering acquiring a Panasonic S1R at the moment, because of the stabilization, too.  What are your thoughts on the SL2?

Thanks, Rob

The SL2 gives a better user experience than the S1R ergonomic, LCD quality, feel of the touchscreen, joystick, shutter release.

But it lacks some functionalities (like pip zoom, High Res mode), the tilting lcd (a lot more useful than I thought) and many customization options that are quite fantastic with the S1R.

As the S1R is really not okay with wide angles M lenses and lack AF for the S lenses I think I will trade my S1R for the SL2 to gain the M & S lenses advantages.

After renting the S1R, I think the loss of autofocus via S lenses is a major limitation. It was *brilliant* of Leica to make that limit... kind of like Apple soldering in the SSDs in their new machine so you can't aftermarket storage.

Yep, that plus the fact that the S1R does not cope well with the 28mm Summicron 2016 (11672) I just bought sealed my decision to switch to the SL2.

I even see color cast when using the 50mm Apo with the S1R (light but it is there).

Btw, what a lens this 50 Apo ! Not cheaper sure but jaw dropping good, I would even go as far as saying S120 mm good (okay, close too)

Better than feeding the alligators! You ARE in Florida.

Or, the water moccasins . . .  . There were a couple found in the bushes near the fence shown in the far side of the photo!  Rob

Hi all - any thoughts on the S 70 f2.5 on the SL2 body? Also, is it safe to buy an S 70 that had its AF motor changed? I already have the 120 Nd I do like it but wondering if the 70 would be a good to have? I do have the 24-90 too so want to be sure the 70 would be a good investment
