setuporg Posted December 24, 2019 Share #1  Posted December 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm really impressed with this zoom -- it is small, fixed length, and fantastic quality and IQ.  It immediately reminded me of the WATE that served so well on the tour of Europe this summer, fitting all the narrow European streets and sweeping landscapes. But the zoom goes beyond that, with a longer end and EXIF data for the exact focal length. The zoom ring is butter. Really a gem with the SL2!

Yes. An absolutely fantastic lens, light and compact for a zoom. Fits with the APO series very well.

Well coming from the X1D and Leica S, it's a great zoom!:) . Also I have the Pentax 16-35mm, which is 2.8 and has a mighty front lens that you cannot hide, and it's much bigger than this one. I guess as far as good zooms go it's great, and also compared to heavier FF lenses like the Nocts it feels very reasonable. Of course after the M 50mm APO it is quite large. But with the SL APO series it is not dramatically bigger in my experience so far. And compared to most other good zooms! And certainly to the Leica S zoom.:) Edited December 25, 2019 by setuporg
ocean2059 Posted December 25, 2019 Share #10  Posted December 25, 2019 I fully agree with you that the 16-35 SL zoom lens is truly excellent. It's actually not that heavy but and size does not change when zooming.

MarkP Posted December 25, 2019 Share #14 Â Posted December 25, 2019 The 16-35VE-SL has a more modern and transparent rendering, and better resolution, Â than the WATE.
tom0511 Posted December 25, 2019 Share #15 Â Posted December 25, 2019 This lens is one of the reasons why I use the L-mount system much more often now than the medium format stuff. Outside it replaces 3-4 primes but I dont feel it suffers much (if any) compared to primes. It also is a great combination together with the 75mm prime.

Well, we’re in the SL section and the thread  title is about the amazing 16-35 zoom.  You asked if it referred to the L mount zoom.  Since that seemed obvious (especially given that the other likely possibility is also an L mount lens), I figured you were just yanking his chain. Jeff The ambiguity of the thread’s title and the OP’s initial post required some chin yanking, I guess.
Jeff S Posted December 25, 2019 Share #18  Posted December 25, 2019 One person’s obvious is another’s ambiguous; a significant factor in much gear and forum debates.  Chain vs chin yanking, I guess. Jeff

Jeff I was hoping actually that perhaps someone got a hold of a copy and the comment was about the other one which I have on pre-order. Another month until we see what half the weight and 1/4 the price yields in terms of IQ.

Jeff Sure, but in this case there are two 16-35 mm L-mount zooms.  Specifying which one is exactly meant shouldn’t be subject to debate, obviously.
