All I can say is that it took some time to get the SL75 firmware updated when mounted on the SL2 - and lots of joy thereafter 👍 ...

I second this. I have had this lens for a few weeks (got it with the FP) and its gold! But for the SL1... I'm going to be honest that the high resolution 35MM type sensors don't totally impress me. I have the SL and have had it since 2016. ITs my go to camera for many many things - including cinematic video work that I don't use or have need for a cinema camera for. But honestly I don't need 47MP in a FF camera. I have the S, and a 645Z for MF and that has a very VERY different render. The SL lenses are GOLD, however. I sent back the 24-90, kept the 90-280, and love the 16-35 and the 90 cron is GREAT. For video functions I decided to pick up a Lumix S1 and the Sigma FP, for a few reasons: 1) the FP actually has RAW video. 2) the S1 has cinema functions similar to the S1H and works well. The Leica marketing has a guy that uses a RED say that he sent his video files to his editor and they asked if he had picked up another RED. From my limited experience with the SL2 at the Leica Store, I don't see how this is even possible. I have a RED Scarlet-W, a 5K camera with Red Code RAW and well, even with the last gen grading there is ZERO comparison to L-Log and RAW. I LOVE Leica, I really and truly do. I can't wait to mess around with the SL2. I've put my 2¢ in and ordered one, just in case. But I may not upgrade. I kind of have all I need. Also, one last thing... for those of us that want to use M, R, and other lenses not native SL lenses on the SL2... the IBIS is DEPENDENT on KNOWING what lens you are using, I believe this is because of the high resolving sensor and the capacity for camera shake even at high shutter speeds. As often as I switch lenses this is kind of a problem for me. Yes, I could save profiles for each lens (like 3 separate profiles can be recorded... but I often use 4+ focal lengths in M-R lenses) but I don't think this is the best way to work for me. We'll see. My GAS says "get it" my mind is telling me its a limited upgrade for me.

nicci78 Posted November 23, 2019 Share #171 Posted November 23, 2019 Actually I don’t see the point to buy into a system where I will only be willing to buy 8 lenses over 18 native full frame L-mount lenses. (I do not the Sigma initially designed for DSLR lenses) And for weight and size sake, I will never consider the other 10. Worst there are only 18 native lenses so far. And several of them are overlap : Wide Angle : Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35 f/3,5-4,5* vs Lumix S Pro 16-35 f/4 vs 14-28 f/2.8 DG DN / Art* 35mm : APO-Summicron-SL 35 f/2 vs 35 f/1.2 DG DN / Art* Fast 50mm : Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4* vs Lumix S Pro 50 f/1.4* Standard around 50 : APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 vs 45mm f/2.8 DG DN / Contemporary Standard zoom : Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 f/2.8-4* vs Lumix S 24-105 f/4 vs Lumix S Pro 24-70 f/2.8* vs 24-70 f/2.8 DG DN / Art* Telephoto zoom : Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280 f/2.8-4* vs Lumix S Pro 70-200 f/4 vs Lumix S Pro 70-200 f/2.8* There are only 2 lenses without any competition yet : APO-Summicron-SL 75 and 90 f/2 * : too big for my taste. alywit Posted November 26, 2019 Share #172 Posted November 26, 2019 There was a split second this afternoon when the Leica USA website made the SL2's in stock and available and I ordered mine! I'm thrilled, I was way down on the waiting lists of the local store and online websites and I wasn't expecting to get one until January... I'm awaiting shipment!

Unlike the S1R the SL2 appears to register lens profiles and send that information correctly to the IBIS unit for M, R and S lenses. So if your lens is coded (or ROM for an R lens) and you're using a genuine Leica adaptor, then you'll have no issues. The IBIS wil get the correct info. It also works with the R zoom lenses that are ROM. I have told Panasonic about the glitch in their firmware. I don't think we'll ever get profiles for M lenses but if the EXIF reader can send the information to the IBIS unit, that would be nice. R lenses tend to work better than M lenses on the S1R in this regard. Gordon
scott kirkpatrick Posted November 29, 2019 Share #174 Posted November 29, 2019 I noticed that as well when I started working with the S1R. Information about a manual focus lens was available but only went to the part of the camera that writes the raw and jpeg file output, where the EXIF information is saved. The IBIS requested its input from the user directly. I'm glad to hear that Leica got that straight with the SL2.
