Nice image - and a positive message!

Regarding SL2 and SL2-S: Any preference for your use? I sold the SL2 since I have resolution covered by S3 (although S3 is not a wild life camera), and changed to SL2-S for longer lenses, low light, etc. I appreciate many aspects of SL2-S, including it's colour rendering.

Thank you Helge, appreciated.

I really like the SL2-S & agree about colours, cleaner images & of course its excellent low light capabilities. I use both cameras interchangeably, with the same settings on both, the SL2 mainly for higher res/cropping when the situation requires & SL2-S for lower light. For easy access the 2 cameras sit side-by-side in a custom made camera tray next to me in my Land Rover.

I don't like spending too much time post processing & I find that the SL2-S files need less work, especially when it comes to noise reduction. When I compare the images from the 2 cameras, I do find the SL2 files in many instances are quite noisy from about ISO800. Though there's still plenty to be said for the ability to crop the SL2 files. If I really had to pick one, the SL2-S probably edges it for me in terms of overall IQ.

All the best for the New Year

Mike

P.S. Speaking of SL2-S low light performance, here's a quick shot of a Leopard I found late at night. She was hunting & moving very quickly through dense bush. I managed to get just this 1 single shot before she disappeared & I also didn't want to interfere with her mission.

Not a great image, but it does illustrate the capabilities of the SL2-S  in rather challenging conditions: a fast moving subject, at night in very thick bush:  ISO 25, 000 (I've never ventured anywhere near this previously) w/ Sigma 150-600mm @ 150mm 1/100s f6.3  AF was on AFS Spot & had no problem finding focus.

Woodland Kingfisher (Halcyon senegalensis) in early morning light @ Mwiba s. Serengeti, Tanzania  -One of my favourite small birds. They have an amazing neon-like, bright turquoise colouration that almost looks artificial.

I took some shots of the NYE fireworks in Sydney tonight. All with the SL2, V-E 90-280 and on a Peak Designs tripod. It was slightly windy and as usual I forgot to turn OIS off.
