Little Bee-eater (Merops pusillus) Ngala Game Reserve S. Africa.

SL2 & Leica VE 90-280mm L @ 280mm (please click on image for better res.)

This image is cropped to 100% full size & illustrates what a superb lens the VE90-280mm is. However, it also illustrates the point that the lens is just too short for birding. In this case I was fortunate that I managed to walk to within 7m of this little bird, normally it's not so easy with birds in the wild. If only Leica would give us a 1.4x TC!

WOn’t the Panasonic or Sigma L mount tele converters work?

They unfortunately don't work on the Leica lens. I have the Sigma 1.4x TC, for the 100-400mm L,  the front element of the extender protrudes too far & bumps into the rear element of the Leica lens.

Many owners of this excellent lens have asked Leica since years for such extenders. Even if such extenders would be expensive. But I never heard any reaction of Leica, which is a shame. At least Leica should answer to this request of many people. If it is not possible because of techical reasons, nobody can do about it. But not to answer is a sign of ignorance and unpolitiness,

I recall a Karbe "lens talk" where he stated that teleconverters compromise image quality, and that you may as well crop your images.

The unanswered question is "would a doubler for the 90-280 be better than the Sigma 150-600?" It probably wouldn't be cheaper! Granted, it would be more compact, but the 90-280 isn't a small lens either.

I see.  Looks like the Panasonic TC has the same problem  https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1480834-REG/panasonic_dmw_stc14_lumix_s_series_1_4x.html
