I agree. The more I'm using the SL2-S the more I'm liking the images it produces. The SL2-S images are definitely cleaner (less noise) & excellent detail, except for birding. The ability to crop with the SL2 makes a big difference with my bird photography, it's the only particular area where I find SL2 is superior.

However I'm learning to use each camera for its own strengths.

I took several images of another Leopard at night with the SL2-S, ISO was set at 12,500. I've never previously used such a high ISO setting & was blown away by the quality.

#1. Unprocessed SL2-S file converted to Jpeg (we use red spotlights when viewing animals at night, as it doesn't blind them or affect their night vision).

SL2-S & VE Leica 90-280mm @ 143mm f3.2  ISO12, 500  1/160s  Ngala Game Reserve S. Africa.

What focus method was used to capture this leopard? Great capture!

I know that some may not think so but it’s a nice day for a drive in those cars and a good day for pictures of them 🙂

Hooded Vulture (Necrosyrtes monachus), Ngala Game Reserve South Africa. These Vultures are critically endangered, with an 80% decline in population over the past 20 years. This is mainly due to traditional beliefs that vulture body parts cure a range of physical and mental illnesses, improve success in gambling & business ventures, or increase intelligence.

Spotted Hyena, Ngala Game Reserve, S. Africa. Extremely intelligent & very flexible in their eating habits, being both efficient hunters & efficient scavengers. Of all carnivores, Hyenas have the most complex social & family structure, with a clearly defined hierarchy.

@michali Excellent pictures!! I've been scouring the web for sample photos taken with SL2 + 90 - 280. I've been having the 'standard kit' 24 -90 for some time now and itching to get my hands on the next lens which is 90 - 280. But i'm worried that the tele is not zoom enough (i mostly take wild life at a forested area near where I live,). Do you wish the reach is longer? Just cant decide whether to pull the trigger on this or the Sigma 400mm L mount. Thanks! keep the photos coming!!

Thanks for your comments.

The Leica VE 90-280mm is an outstanding lens, excellent image quality & very versatile. I find that for general wildlife it's not too short. The SL2 with its 47MP sensor gives you the ability to crop & get closer shots. However for birding I find the lens is just too short.

I also have the Sigma100-400mm L, great value & image quality is good up to a subject distance of 20m. However at 1/8 of the price of the  the Leica 90-280mm L, it will never be in the same league. Sigma has also just released a 150-600mm in L mount, maybe worth a try.
