I .wondered about that. Since you know and can tell us now, is that also true in photo, as well as video, mode. It looks like a combination of alpha-numeric and object oriented, like the TL2.

Firstly, whatever is new gets user to relearn and determine wether is the later better. But on a short note, icons on scrolling screen left/right & up/down certainly means a more compact page and easier for most users to find and be familiar. So instead of 4 buttons spread across the rear screen for customisation. There are 5 spread over the camera front, top and back.

This sounds awfully similar to the Panasonic's DFD....
Autofocus System - Based on contrast metering and depth mapping

And I wonder what happened to the rumored "lighter camera?"
Leica SL - 771/847 g (without/with battery)
Leica SL2 - Approx. 835g (without battery)
If my math is correct, the SL2 is 64g heavier?

Leica SL also uses DFD.

10 fps is also without AFc.

One can argue that in some instances ‘refocusing’ in between  frames are not required. But I see it as pure marketing ploy. You can hear the negative comment over S1R can only do 6fps/s by default when AFC is selected. Leica let you decide. Btw did you realise SL do not do AFC focus tracking on 11fps/s?

My point is that we should not worry about 20fps being without AFc when even 10fps is without AFc :-).

Nikon's D850 shoots at 7fps, which is plenty for wildlife. In my experience,  more important is the size of the buffer and how quickly it can be cleared.

Yes, very disappointing that.

Give it a chance to see how the DFD/CDAF autofocus works in real world now that the  SL2 has a faster and more powerful Maestro III processor to take on faster AF calculations.

There is no need to be the fastest AF camera, more important the AF tracking works well. Gets focus in Low light.

I received the same invite in my mailbox. Not sure the venue can accommodate so many of us. Parking might be a nightmare.

I'm might give it a miss.  It would be nice to meet Steve McCurry, but in a forum like this it's just just going to be smilie and say hello.  The Leica Store at Raffles will have a sample to look at from the 10th I think.

Incidentally, they say they have Vallet Parking or you can park at the Citadines across the road.

I meant the size and weight.  I was hoping for something smaller and lighter.

(Edit: just read that you meant weight not DFD).
Why so? I am looking forward to absence of banding that is almost always present in sensors with OSPDAF. Wish GFX100 would have used DFD instead of OSPDAF.

I’m also thinking of giving the party a miss.

I just meant I was disappointed by it's not being lighter and more compact.  I'm not too fussed about the autofocus - I know that is critical for many people but so much not for me personally.

Ah, maybe I should drop by.  I messaged Nadia and she didn't tell me that.  I guess you have better privileges 🙂
