I'm a newbie here. I received my Q2 this past week and this morning I decided to drive out to Bombay Beach which is on the east side of Salton Sea. I experimented with manual focus (first time for me tbh) and although I had a few duds, I was encouraged by the results.

Here are some pictures I took this morning, a couple converted to B&W. Comments appreciated.

Nice picture, thank for that - reminded me of one of the most touching movies I have ever seen:

Waiting for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb practice to begin. Up at 2:30 am and at the gate on the side of Pikes Peak at 3:30 am. Gate opened at 4:00 am and in position on the course by around 5:30 am. It's the 98th running of the Hill Climb and today was a practice day for the upper section beginning at Devil's playground area and the Bottomless Pit which is just beyond the main curve on the right side of the photo. Leica Q2, 1/30, f/1.7, ISO 500, on tripod.

I'm looking forward to seeing your practice photos.

Thanks. I’m working on the over 6000 photos taken during two days. Mostly with my Canon R5 and 500mm f/4 lens, but a few with the Q2. I’ll post a few of the Q2’s images and give a URL for my larger gallery. It was terrific fun being on the mountain and seeing seriously fast cars running up to 14,000’.

First run of the day for Tesla and it crashed at the Bottomless Pit curve. Cold tires is the probable cause. I captured the entire crash with my Canon R5 and 500mm f/4 lens and the scene with the Q2. I'll post both photos with the caveat that I will remove the crash image immediately if any administrator objects. It's a unique photo of a "Flying Tesla" and I freely acknowledge it was not taken with a Leica camera or lens. The Tesla was a loss. Later that day Tesla sent down another car and the Unplugged Performance team, who was running the car, completely switched over the performance parts to the new car in time to run it on Sunday in the official race. It finished 2nd. in it's class.

It was a tough year, for all of us.

At some point during this time I came to a realisation that I notice a lot less colour. I started to notice a lot more detail, often insignificant. At first I was very reluctant to accept it, but I kept at it and now I embrace it. If this is the result of the 2020, I have little to complain about.

I was lucky to be on a work trip to Tokyo and Taipei in February, right when all this nightmare started. It seemed so normal back then. Having relived those trips now, I welcome the changed reality we're in and hopefully I continue to improve further down the road, as will we all.

Here are a couple of snaps, nothing special, but I hope it can somehow underline how wonderful Tokyo is.

I like your group of photos. I too have this experience of "seeing" more in b&W lately.  The times, or perhaps it's the way the Q2 behaves. I love the way it renders black and white straight out of camera.  I'm curious, have you post processed these photos you've shown?

New RockNRoll sake grey rope camera strap! I love it! It is soft and easily works as a wrist strap. Clearly I don't have a future as a product photographer. 👀

Shipping from Europe wasn't expensive and the strap arrived in four days.

BTW: RockNRoll seem to be having a sale on at the moment. Their straps are beautiful and works of art in themselves. https://rocknrollstraps.com

Thank you!

I enjoy its b&w rendering as well. I have it on high contrast and all assists off, always underexpose slightly and import the DNGs as is, with very minor tweaks to clarity and dehaze (+8 max) sliders in Lightroom, and subtle blue channel adjustments depending on the shot. All in all, very light work in post.

I used to hesitate that I’m trying to make it a poor man’s MxM or an M in general but quickly realised that it’s its own beast, with tighter, more modern and direct feedback compared to the M. If we drop the unfair comparison of its fixed lens vs the variety of cron and lux glass, its tactile feel and capability to me personally is unparalleled across the whole Leica range. That is its biggest advantage as it is always in my bag.

John -

A lovely shot, and I also got the Match cap to replace the ill-designed original cap.  I too was taken with this style strap, and bought one in Leica packaging ("rope strap") at Adorama for $95.  I initially loved it, but carrying my Q every day, with the strap wrapped about my hand, it frayed at the junctions of the leather and the rope in less than a year, forcing me to go back to the original strap.  If you don't use the camera as much as I do perhaps you'll not experience the fraying for several years.

Stuny,

I do like the Match cap and tether. It is one less thing to worry about losing. Thanks for the heads up about the fraying. I will keep an eye on it.

Cheers,

John
