Three or four buttons, what's the difference? Just be good sports and hand over the money to Leica.

As soon as SL2 is announced a new countdown to a next model will start all over again. A new model will be announced in approximately 4 years, probably with new updated button layout inspired by other models like future CL2, M11, Q3, etc.

By 2023 there should be full range of L Summicrons starting from 21mm and maybe reaching 135mm on sale and maybe even a compatible Sigma lens longer than 280mm, one just need to live long enough.

You need to work on your marketing spin.  :)

It is 4x2= 8 buttons (short and long press) vs 3...

However coming from the CL. SL2 is super easy to use. Even better with four extra function buttons.
But knowing how SL works. It was definitely better before if you setup everything correctly.

FWIW, the unlabeled 4 button interface of the SL started with Phase, when Leica had a relationship, and was borrowed by the S before trickling down to the SL.  This is another sign that the S system is no longer the flagship for Leica (introducing features first), along with the SL2 release before the S3.

I think that S3 is being rebooted. No reason not incorporating all the novelties from SL2 : Maestro III and some other new stuff.

Quite possible, but that would reinforce my point about the S no longer leading the way, including MP (when the SL2 is released ahead of the S3).

As long as its inner values shine, of course.

For many of us the SL2 will be the last camera we’ll ever buy.

For this to happen, the SL2 needs some kick-@ss sensor, not that 47 MPx dud.

I didn’t write ‘sensor’; I wrote ‘MP’.  The S007 sensor is 4+ years old, which the SL2 sensor will supersede, at least MP-wise... for now.  If the S system had taken off, I doubt Leica would have allowed any of its other systems to beat it in the MP race for marketing, even though we know that sensor tech (and other in-camera hardware/software) involves so much more.

It's a dud? Please explain how you came to that conclusion and your experience with it.

See #251 and #252 at ISO 100. Whenever Shadows are lifted by 100 and then Exposure is adjusted to get a bright enough picture the 47 MPx S1R files can fall apart.

In #252 Exposure is +1.35 for the S1R picture and +1.2 for the CL one.  See the color banding in the lower right corner with the S1R sensor and see how clean the CL file is?

Links to the RAW files are included, of course.

And here the quick view on the JPEGs: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-zZCDLz/  😂

I actually thought you made a good point and I was serious. Tom is just being a bit silly above.

Given the amount of GAS found in this and countless other threads on the site, while I admire the sentiment and suspect that while the SL2 might be a corker, it's likely to be able bottle up these sorts of primal urges for only so long.  But who knows, it might save a few souls.  😊

btw i thought you sold your SL in july..

Original SL price was around 7000, original GFX price was around 7000, and x1d a tad higher..i though that was obvious.

anyways.

moving on.

Yes. I sold my SL in July and have placed a $5700 deposit for SL2 with Leica.

what has that got to do with your point?

You said GFX, X1D price similar to SL, but author did not say do? Please keep your interpretation to yourself if you do not have a point to bring to the discussion.

Well, ALL the 135 format 40MP+ sensors "fall apart" under the same shooting conditions. I have extensive experience with each of them except the A7R4. So they're all duds?

No, they don’t.  I have an α7R III and a Z7 and could post examples until the cows come home.  But I won’t.  What I will do, though, is compare the SL2 to the S1R (and the S1), hopefully soon (keep my fingers crossed, next week).  And I’ll feel pretty comfortable to do this because that 47 MPx sensor ain’t in the SL2.  😀.

BTW, the CL sensor has a lower pixel pitch and a higher pixel density than the S1R/Q2 sensor and the files don’t fall apart.

better for some customers..not most.

and 4 completely customizable buttons is better than 3 fixed ones with deep menus

Why do you need so many buttons since you only mount manual focus lenses on your SL?

The M does not have 4 programable and M users do not miss it.

I suspect that the nail biting stress of anxiously waiting for the release of the SL2 is starting to get to some; sniping over the specs of a camera of which we have sketchy or at best limited information.  Seriously??? 😂
