Advertisement Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Hi a.noctilux, Take a look here New: Leica M-E (Type 240). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
aj37 Posted August 2, 2019 Share #142 Posted August 2, 2019 So, who has an M-E 240 in the wild? Had been hoping to see some reviews/samples by now...
a.noctilux Posted August 2, 2019 Share #143 Posted August 2, 2019 (edited) I bet that when reviews/samples come, there will be no more M-E (typ 240) available for sale 😉. That my optimism side for Leica Camera volume selling. Since it's mainly M (typ 240) with 2GB buffer, it's just a better M for serial pictures use. With that bonus (or not of the "new coloring" ), I think it's the same as M(typ 240) we have millions of samples photos out there. Thousands of M240 and family users can't be wrong 😊. While waiting, have a look at this threat (if not done already) or this for photos Edited August 2, 2019 by a.noctilux

jdlaing Posted August 2, 2019 Share #146 Posted August 2, 2019 It always acceptable to ask those questions. This is a lighter less expensive camera in the same line with the same image engine. The results should be the same.

To help answer whether there’s likely any differences from the standard m240 I can tell you it comes with an m240 manual and a small card explaining that it has 2gb buffer and isn’t compatible with the multi function hand grip. The paint finish is a very nice, textured finish and the leather cover is concerningly soft.

I used my Epson R-D 1 so much that I legitimately wore out the original rubber covering, so this might give me pause.

Apparently my local Leica flagship store received ONE only and I'm on their wait-list, but no updates. I'm not usually this impatient, but I'm wondering if they're already sold out or something. 750 is not a lot of cameras.

I preordered the day of the announcement from an authorised dealer. I know the London store sent out a stock alert last week but they’re showing as awaiting stock now. I would hope Leica would be able to count to 750 and stop orders once they were all gone but 🤷♂️

Have you never seen Mercedes or Cadillac sell at the half price a model befor put it off production? A Type 240 with this price kills the second hand market for this model, regardless the presence or the lack of a single functionality. I paid my MP 240 6K€. How much Can I get selling it? 2K€? Very disappointed. Then don't sell it. Problem solved. 😉 These cameras were never intended to be investment vehicles, or a means for building a cushy retirement. I am still shooting with my M-P 240 and am well pleased with it and the image quality it produces at 16x24 inch and even 24x36 inch print sizes as long as I do not attempt to shoot at ISO nine hundred fifty billion. I am glad that Leica is offering a semi-affordable new entry into the M system. Not everyone who loves Leica M cameras and lenses can poop gold doubloons by the oxcart load. jhluxton Posted August 3, 2019 Share #154 Posted August 3, 2019 I picked up my ME240 at Leicastore Manchester on Wednesday. Not had an opportunity to use it yet, but I am really pleased to have been able to pick up a second M body at a low price. When I bought my first M in 2016 I opted for an M262 partly due to the lower price and the fact I never shoot MPG files. A year or so later when I was looking at wide angle lenses I realised I had a problem if I wanted anything wider than 28mm with the M262 as there is no live view and an expensive and bulky external finder would be required. Now I can consider a wider angle lens in a few months to use with the ME240, also I have a second body so that if the M262 needs attention I can carry on shooting. I wonder what proportion of ME240 buyers are already M users already compared to new recruits to the system? John

Even the staff were excited and gathered around to watch me open the box and take pictures of the camera. I noticed there are exposed contacts for the multi function grip, so the note in the manual is odd. I would still be curious to try it out.

Yeah I couldn’t figure that out either, the contacts are there, I presume they haven’t redesigned the board so maybe they just ran out of connectors between the board and contacts 🤷♂️

I have been holding out till I can afford an M 10-P which would be my primary camera, moving my Safari 240 to back up duty. At half the cost of the M 10-P, the M-E 240 has thrown a monkey wrench into the works. The M-E 240's beautiful anthracite finish doesn't help matters, either...
