The Drifter is a well chosen name for a Monochrom camera drifting towards the inevitable end of the Monochrom M and smoothening the path for a Monochrom M10

IMHO it will take one summer holiday before the new M will arrive.

I do not see any limited edition camera as indicating any future trend. The Drifter is a quite limited edition, with a unique sepia-tone finish.

The Monochrom 246 is still available, new, for immediate shipping, from at least one major Leica Store in the USA, for the original official price of $7995 US. I would think that the best way to encourage Leica to produce an M10 Monochrom, would be for the available stock of the Monochrom Type 246 to completely sell-out, due to a frenzied demand.

Having said that, I would love to be proven wrong. 😁

More significant than the Drifter, in terms of an M10M perhaps coming soon, is the fact that in the UK at least, Leica has just reduced the retail price of the M246 from £6200 to £4750.

That’s a hell of a saving and won’t please everyone, especially those who recently committed to a new one, or who are thinking of selling.

I don’t know if this has happened in other countries; I’m guessing it has.

Totally unrelated, probably same London Leica dealer, SL dropped to £3195.

Actually M246 was held at very high price point for too long, some three years ago I acquired mine for les than £5k (4990). It may well be an attempt to offload the stock, whether it brings M10M time will tell.  Hopefully it is back paint finish otherwise M246 is still good enough.

It’s not a specific London dealer dropping the prices, it’s a Leica UK directive, both for the M246 and the SL.

I agree that the 246 of course remains more than good enough, as does the SL, for me at least. Never a better time to acquire either whether new, or used (since the used prices will be depressed for both).

Price drops tend to start in UK, then go to the US and elsewhere soon after (a few days). Same with the package deal on the Leica SL.

Getting the limited edition out, and price drop. I've started saving pennies for the M10-DM 😉

And I will soon be able to buy the Monochrom 246 when the used marked are effected 😊

And wouldn't you be surprised when😉 it really happened...

It seems that the Monochrom 246 remains at $7995 in the USA, according to a flagship Leica store’s site, which stocks the 246. I have been watching the availability and price, hoping to be able to get a second 246. I have budgeted to spend $8K, in very late May/June, but that is by taking from my 2018/2019 travel budget, so a substantial price drop would be welcome.

I have bought pre-owned, in the past, including my present 246, but have developed a reluctance to keep rolling those dice. Plus, a few pre-owned 246 cameras have been selling for a bit more, recently, on evil-bay, rather than less, while the truly minty samples have disappeared.

When I really love a mechanical and/or electronic item, which will someday become rare, I have learned that I should try to acquire a second/spare copy, if practicable, during the time of plenty. I love my M10, too, but that does not mean that there will be an actual M10 Monochrom, or that any future Monochrom will share batteries and accessories with either my 246 or M10. Three battery sizes, and three chargers, might be a bit much.

I am not advising anyone what to do. These are my thoughts, for myself.

The Monochrom 246 price is still $7995 in the USA, but I found an apparently clean, very-low-use pre-owned 246 offered by a reputable seller, Popflash, for almost $3K less than that, and clicked the Buy-It-Now tab. Now, I can be very patient, regarding any future Monochrom editions. The $3K I did not spend, may be used to add a lens.

RexGig0, good moving.

As I was tired of waiting for M10 Monochrom (in M-D if possible), I took the same path some months ago, M246 and changed my mind

concerning future M10-D Monochrom.

I can say that the M246 is as good as can be a Monochrom for years to come, so I'm not "waiting" anymore, and just use it with pleasure.

Now, I don't care if M10 Monochrom comes soon or not ☺️.
