Pecole Posted May 17, 2019 Share #1  Posted May 17, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had a few cine-cameras in my former Fontenelle Leitz-Leica collection, but I never used same. Here are some photos of the very simple model 8S, the 8S with Dygon fixed-focus 15 mm lens and wide-angle lens attachment Dygon 9 mm, same with a Leicina Super, the Leicina 8SV, and finally the Leitz Canada 16 mm gun camera N9 that came from na Avro Canuck jet fighter. skucera Posted May 31, 2019 Share #2  Posted May 31, 2019 (edited) The last few days I've been seeing Leicina articles, threads, and pictures a few times a day, and I'm wondering why they're suddenly presenting themselves to me now. I don't think I've ever seen a Leica movie camera with my own eyes, but I must admit that I'm getting curious about Leicinas. Time to go off and surf the web from one Leicina web page to the next.... All I remember about the military (airborne) 16mm Leitz camera, Luigi, is that it was first ordered by the Luftwaffe to equip its Lockheed F-104 Starfighters. As a former Captain, I was able to get mine from the surplus of the Belgian Beauvechain military airfield (home of the 1st Fighter Wing of the Belgian Air Force, equiped with F-104s as well), where I had flown myself. It was used to check firing.

Scott I think the interest is due to Kodak introducing the new Ektrachome Super 8 film - which was prompted by a movie industry push.

Not a Captain nor a pilot… .. so I only could sit down on a F-104S of Italian AirForce when serviced as a SubLieutenant of an Antiaircraft Artillery Group based at Istrana Airport   (1980... F104s were almost at their end of service… but still fascinating beasts… iirc the photo recording set was based on a Made in Italy Galileo camera… 6x9 or 9x12 judging from size… not so dissimilar from some "Aerial Linhof" that sometime do appear for sale) Edited May 31, 2019 by luigi bertolotti
wlaidlaw Posted June 4, 2019 Share #8  Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) It was certainly Kodak re-introducing Ektachrome that spurred my interest. I hope that my Leicina Special will arrive tomorrow from Germany. I particularly like the ability to use my LTM, M and R lenses. I just ordered 8 AA Eneloop batteries from Amazon but AAA turned up 😖 Wilson PS Has anyone any experience in cleaning the film gate on a Leicina Special. The manual is silent on this matter, The second hand book on Super 8 photography I have bought, says the gate should be cleaned every two or three cassettes, especially with non REM-Jet coated film like Ektachrome E100 is. This is because the film travelling through the gate builds up a static charge (which is discharged on the carbon particle conductive REM-Jet film) and any dust or hairs which have adhered to the film via the static charge, are then often scraped off on the gate. I have ordered a pair of soft camel hair brushes as a delicate way of brushing dirt off the gate. Blowing is apparently not recommended. W  Welcome, dear visitor! Martin K Posted June 9, 2019 Share #10 Â Posted June 9, 2019 In the Leica Fotografie magazines 1-1990 and 2-1990 Wilhelm Schaefer recounts some details about the Leicina film cameras. The first prototype was developed as far back as 1937. The war stopped all further development until the 1950s. A new prototype was completed by 1957 which had to be wound up and took double eight film cassettes. But this prototype never made it into production. The Leicina 8 S has that honour, being shown the first time during Photokina 1960. Photos of the 1937 and 1957 prototypes are shown in the 1-1990 magazine.
