Did you ask?

I was not talking about registering your cameras - nearly everybody does - but about registering yourself as a professional photographer.

Of course I am registered as a professional photographer but did that change somehing? Nope.

It's not a matter of having a bad dealer in my case because I have talked to Leica France directly and the S007 and lenses have been given back to a Leica store.

So no one else to blame than the non existent support and care from Wetzlar.

...Since November 8th, 2018 my SOO7 is at the customer service (I hope) and I have NO NEWS from them!!!...

@KdB,

Sorry to hear of your troubles with Leica's repair department.  I am hoping for your sake that someone there will read this thread and immediately move your S007 to the #1 slot in the repair line.  Over six months waiting with no end in sight is just not right.

I have been eyeballing the S system for a while now and am reconsidering.  I have not had a bit of trouble out of my M-P 240 in 4+ years of fairly hard shooting and am now thinking of sticking with the M system rather than risking going through the repair hell you have experienced.

I hope someone in Wetzlar is watching/reading/listening.

Hello Herr Barnack.

Thank you for your kind words.

I strongly recommend you to stay away from the S line. Two S bodies, two heavy failures... Enough said.

But in the end, it's your decision, your money.

I do regret spending so much for sub-par products seeking for the perfect camera.

When I compare how reliable is my 5DmkIV, it's like comparing day and night...

For some reasons, the title of the topic has been edited to be softer with Leica.

Is it on request of Leica or is it censorship?

It is "censorship", as you like to call it. This is not a public platform, but a privately owned site. We have rules for behaviour and excessive titles will be edited.

You have to register with Wetzlar, not your local importer or store.

This is already done.

It do not change a thing. A miserable failure from Leica who keeps on ignoring a photographer.

I'm going to stick with the M system for the foreseeable future.

Regarding digital medium format, Fuji just dropped what looks to be a turd in Leica's punch bowl: https://petapixel.com/2019/05/22/fujifilm-gfx100-unveiled-its-a-game-changing-102mp-mirrorless-camera/

More like Phase One's punch bowl ;) . I'm sure that Leica is aware of the mirrorless challenge to DSLRs, and they have never shown much interest in the megapixel race. I agree that the S niche appears to be narrowing.

If I were a medium format professional, this would look like the future for me.

I had a really bad experience with Leica when I sent my M10 back for a repair for accidental damage.

I shan't go into all the details again here, (I have spoken about them before in the forum) but it was so bad, they were so dismissive, unresponsive and absurdly expensive that I'm strongly discouraged from buying from Leica again, having been a regular customer since the early 1980s. I may buy from the used market but it's most unlikely that I'll buy a new Leica camera ever again, or at least until I have good reason to believe that something important has changed there.

It gives me no pleasure to say this.

Absurdly expensive is one thing; dismissive and unresponsive are other matters altogether.  There is no justification for treating a decades long loyal customer who has spent well into five figures on M cameras and lenses in such an arrogant manner.

This makes me wonder wonder:  Is treating loyal customers like scheisse after they spend huge sums of money on your company's products a common practice among German corporations?  Is this a German thing? Or is this a Leica thing?

Peter's story is certainly not the first of its kind we have heard on this forum.

What I've noticed over the years of reading about customer service experiences on this forum is that there's no consistency to how Leica apparently treats its customers.

One person will return an accident damaged camera, which will be repaired very quickly and returned at no cost. The next person will be given a huge bill including work that they didn't even think was required.

Some people turn up at the Leica factory and ask on the off chance about repairs, which are carried out immediately whilst they wait. Others wait months and months, with little or no communication from Leica.

It seems to be a complete lottery as to how Leica will treat you if you need to use their service, and also as to how much they're going to charge you! Not good enough for any organisation let alone one that relies on a mostly loyal user base.

Exactly.
