Yes.  It focuses down to just under a foot. At that distance the depth of field is very limited, especially since this lens seems to show the design characteristics of this lens family in ♠️ namely higher sharpness in a narrower range. Whether it is an f1.4 equivalent or and f1.2 I don’t know, but it does obliterate the background.

Just under a foot to the sensor?

I can focus about 4 inches from the front of the lens....but yes the dof is very short.

Yes, especially  closeup and backlit performance

I originally signed up for the 50/2, but I have both uber-50s (M 1.4 asph  and M APO 2.0), and I'm not that fond of the M 35/1.4 FLE.  So I'm starting to hold my breath for the 35/2.0 but expect it will be another month or so.  Leica USA has't told my shop anything yet. and I'm not first in line.  My plan is to have both 35's available as "normal" lenses on the CL, and the new 35 as its natural focal length on the SL.  And then starts a long countdown for the wider lenses coming in 2020...

Are you planning to use the SL35Apo with the CL?

Sure, why not?  But I do have the CL 35/1.4.  I'll spend some time seeing how they differ.

I actually like the idea, maybe I am gonna grab one too, although I ain't got an SL body 🙂 An autofocus Apo Summicron which is cheaper than the M 50 apo. Wow!

FWIW I cancelled my pre-order today.  Clawed back my $AUD 700 deposit and am feeling great.

Best $AUD 6650 I'll now get to spend somewhere else 😃

On ... something better than the 35 Summicron-SL?  Good move.  Let us know what it is!

My copy made it from Thousand Oaks, CA to Houston TX in about 5 days, from Texas to Tel Aviv in three more days, but it looks like getting it up the hill from the airport to my house (40 km) will take three more days...  I have plans for immediate use.

If it helps anyone, Leica Store Rome has a single copy available as of yesterday. They let me try it on my own SL inside the store. Certainly much less bulky than the 24/90 zoom but didn’t spend enough time with it to develop any meaningful impressions.
