Trev Posted April 3, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the Equestriian world it’s often said of a rider with little ability. When on a Horse wth pedigree. Impeccable conformation, highly trained, elastic paces and light to the touch. A real champion in The right hands. That the rider is overhorsed. So I come to it. I recently acquired my Q. Impeccable pedigree. First class materials. Beautifully built. Capable of producing stunning images. Then there’s me. I’m drinking deeply from the well of Qoolade. Enjoying every mouthful. Hoping one day to make a picture worthy of my new Instrument. Yes, my friends. My Name is Trev. I’m overhorsed. 3 2

evikne Posted April 3, 2019 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) I think that not only Leica users, but most users of any modern camera are more or less overhorsed. Against the equipment we will always be the weakest link in our photography. But this can also be an inspiring thought that helps us strive to get even better. bags27 Posted April 3, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2019 somewhere I read, either here or on another site, that the person had sold his Q because it made taking great pictures too easy. At the time I laughed, but I'm beginning to reevaluate whether that is actually funny.

Perhaps that person is a masochist, in which case the collodion process and an 11x14 camera would be a better fit.

I believe that even Ansel Adams eventually forsook his large format for MF.

We are ALL students along the journey of trying to take better photos today than we took yesterday. Glad you have joined us. The Q, Q-P, Q2 are all fine fine instrumentals that routinely reward us and make this photographer look occasionally far more capable than my underlying skill. Its a joy to learn from others and also share images we think may be interesting to others or that we’re particularly proud of. Welcome. Look forward to your posts and questions. 3
T.J. Posted April 3, 2019 Share #9 Posted April 3, 2019 I too am “overhorsed.” I am a pretty good technical guy, have landed jets on ships, work in finance, and have a complete lack of creative skills. Photography is my attempt to learn some degree of creativity (because I’ll never learn to paint). Having a nice tool adds to my enjoyment so that on those occasions that my luck exceeds my skill I end up with a beautiful image. The Q2 is my latest tool and I look forward to lots of good luck. ☘️

Trev you are not over-horsed. It's only a camera. However, the photography is up to you. How your photographs come out is your responsibility. You can never blame the equipment. A chef who has prepared a poor dinner never comes out and blames the pots and pans for their poor performance. So, Trev, it's all up to you. Good luck with your photography.

I have never landed an F-4 Phantom on a carrier, but I did work in finance and the aerospace sector (as a civilian, I was given a ride in an F-16). I can also park a pontoon boat at my dock! I have a picture of that too. By your leave, sir.

wizard Posted April 4, 2019 Share #16 Posted April 4, 2019 (edited) Overhorsed, I like that term, too. Drivers of BMW M cars or Mercedes AMG cars spring to my mind, pretending to be in control of several hundred hp, but with next to no driving skills. That's what I call overhorsed. Your Q2 is just fine, enjoy it! Cheers, Andy Edited April 4, 2019 by wizard
