T25UFO Posted March 20, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) The function button, in play mode, allows deleting of individual photos, but I can't see how you can batch delete all photos on the card. I have around 200 photos that I now want to delete - I could press the function button 200 times or just reformat the card, but there must be an option to batch delete. I'm sure it's something simple - what am I missing?
Advertisement Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Hi T25UFO, Take a look here How do you delete multiple photos from the Q2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
HighlandK Posted March 20, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2019 Personally my practice on all cameras has.been to avoid batch delete. I rarely delete anything in camera. My reasoning is that there is a risk of screwing up the card. Probably pranoid. I much prefer to download all to storage, delete anything there and reformat the card in camera. I am not a techie but I always understood that, like any computer storage system it uses an index of where each images is stored on the card and once the index is corrupted you have probably lost all unless you do not take any more and then use rescue software. As I say perhaps paranoid but better safe than ....

I rarely delete anything in camera. I strongly concur with that and never delete in camera for the reasons given. However, according to the manual you can: turn the thumbwheel to the left to increase the number of images displayed when in play mode (one turn increases to 12, two turns to 30); press and hold the zoom/lock button to tag an image. You can then apparently delete the photos that have not been so tagged. Generally, see pages 111 and 112 of the downloadable manual. wda Posted March 20, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2019 Simply REFORMAT the card.
dadohead Posted March 20, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 20, 2019 Deleting 200 is a little nuts; I'd wipe a card and reformat it before I did something like that. Aren't you transferring your photos to a computer or other storage device? If you're using your SD card for archival purposes, you're asking for it. As others have noted, adding and deleting and adding and deleting photos from the card is a recipe for disaster. But you asked: on my Q, I press Play button and then press Delete and I get a dialog with three options; Single, Multi and All. Press Multi and you will get a 12-up gallery of thumbnails (not adjustable); pressing a thumbnail will overlay a red garbage can on each selected thumbnail. When done, press delete on screen. Be warned though, if you have more than one screen of thumbnails (and trying to delete 200 you will have ... doing math... 17 screens of thumbnails), it can get a little confusing, especially if the photos look similar. The gallery jumps around and an inadvertent deletion is all but guaranteed. Disclaimer: I'm on FW 3.0.
T25UFO Posted March 20, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted March 20, 2019 Thanks for the prompt replies. Yes, of course you are right about not deleting in camera and there is always the option to reformat the card after transferring the files to my computer. I was really just curious as to whether multiple deletes were possible - the Q2 interface is different in this respect from the original Q. I must download the full manual, as the camera comes only with a brief quick start guide. This now seems to be the norm with Leica, as my M10-D only has the quick start guide as well. SrMi Posted March 20, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 20, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I second the opinion that in-camera batch delete is too dangerous. The closest to batch delete on Q2 is "Delete Unrated".

For the CL, in the UK I was able to request a full copy which came in English only, so is slimmer and easier to consult. I am sure the same must apply to other current models.
