Deal Castle? We spent a year abroad in Canterbury in 67-68, and used to visit the castle, promenade and beach regularly. Very soothing (for an instrument of war ;) )

Pah - who needs a fancy SL2 & all-singing, all-dancing uber-expensive APO 35mm to focus at 30cm?  El-cheapo M240 & 35mm Elmarit-R combo gets there too! ;)  ;)

Nice photo, nice lens but I actually think you're proving the point that one needs the APO.

That may well be so - after all, my post was entirely tongue in cheek, hence the wording & emoticons.

I am inclined to agree that the Leica R lenses already do a good job of close-up.  Here are a couple of quick snaps with the Summicron-R 35 (II) wide-open at about 20cm from the subject, taken on an SL using Live View focus-peaking.  Nothing fancy, just a close-up of my Mexican crocodile.
