I’m back from two weeks in Iraq for a reportage about the Yazidi genocide with a Q (and a Nikon =D)

Surprise. For the first time (not really, the second time to be honest) I've converted all the photos in colors.... because.... well I think the images and THESE colors speak alone... let me know what you think, it was a very hard and suffered decision 😂

PS: only the photos from the reportage of the Yazidi Genocide and Yazidi holy rite are in colors. Streetphotography photos still BW.

These are from the holy rite in the ooooold city of Lalish (built 6000 years ago)

And these are some soulful eyes of the lovely children... capture with the D800E and 105 macro. Sorry, don't be camera racist 😂 only to show you these children .

Sorry for the very long post, all the pictures are on my website. Please let me know what you think about these colors. Usually I don't use the colors, any helpful criticism is appreciate!

Thanks again!

In my opinion, the b&w images are more powerful. Yes, the colors are very beautiful but I find myself reacting more to the color than to the content.

That's a good point and I'm totally agree but.... I don't know: people want to see something "nice" to put more interest on it. For that I used the photos in colors. Also for me the colors are more "pleasant" but less "crude/powerful". In the end, light has no colors.

Well, you've clearly hit the sweet spot with the Q; it's meshing perfectly with your vision. Extraordinary work. I'm always amused when folks claim, "Oh, I can't work with a 28. If only it were 35." Your work is vivid proof, once again, it's not what's on the spec sheet, it's what's between the ears -- the eyes and the brain and maybe a little detour through the heart.

I think the black and white pictures have more character of a documentary reportage. They are more dramatic. Yes, it is a dama.

The color pictures show that these people can not take their will to live. If you hide the background, it looks like in a world completely unknown to us, like the fairy tale in 'One Thousand and One Nights'.

Anyway. Fantastic Photos.

Thanks to all, if someone want to ask something, just do it :D  I'm here to reply! I know, and I agree, that some photos are more powerful in BW, but you have to make a choice: all in colors or all in BW, otherwise the reportage will result "weird" :)

By the way, here'are some of the other best pics  caputured with the Q in 2000px with the exif for the Leica Forum :)

I usually think b&w is better, color can prettify the story, but in this case I think it adds .... bravo on using the Q macro for portrait, never thought of that when I had it.... Love the CL as long as I don't need the long tele pics anymore (400mm+), I am thinking about the Q2 . . . . .

Awesome, awesome work! This is what true photojournalism & storytelling is about. Grazie Giulio!

Btw, I can see why you were torn between B&W and colour: both are amazing in this series. FWIW, I have a slight preference for B&W here, as my attention gets more focussed on what really matters: the people and their condition. Yet, I appreciate that perhaps colour adds even more realism to their stories.

I don't have a Q, but now I'm thinking...

Yeah, wait for the new Q at this time! It works great in macro mode, but you need to go very close to you subject to catche the focus!

Yes, I agree with you: colors are more realistic and give you a feel where you can identify yourself with this people (I think). BW are more artistic but less realistic. I had to choosen, and I choosen the color for the reportage and BW for the artistic photos from the street :)

(Q-P now is a must if you like the special editions, or wait for the Q-2 :) )
