giuliomagnifico Posted October 29, 2018 Author Share #21 Posted October 29, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Surprise. For the first time (not really, the second time to be honest) I've converted all the photos in colors.... because.... well I think the images and THESE colors speak alone... let me know what you think, it was a very hard and suffered decision 😂 PS: only the photos from the reportage of the Yazidi Genocide and Yazidi holy rite are in colors. Streetphotography photos still BW. https://www.giuliomagnifico.it/yazidi-genocide/ https://www.giuliomagnifico.it/yazidi-cejna-cemaiya Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Hi giuliomagnifico, Take a look here I’m back from two weeks in Iraq for a reportage about the Yazidi genocide with a Q (and a Nikon =D). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RoySmith Posted October 29, 2018 Share #22 Posted October 29, 2018 Love the colours, the eyes, the faces - all of it - great photos. Roy
fotografr Posted October 30, 2018 Share #23 Posted October 30, 2018 In my opinion, the b&w images are more powerful. Yes, the colors are very beautiful but I find myself reacting more to the color than to the content.

Yes, the colors are very beautiful but I find myself reacting more to the color than to the content. That's a good point and I'm totally agree but.... I don't know: people want to see something "nice" to put more interest on it. For that I used the photos in colors. Also for me the colors are more "pleasant" but less "crude/powerful". In the end, light has no colors.
Bateleur Posted October 31, 2018 Share #25 Posted October 31, 2018 (edited) Remarkable series, word fail me on thinking of mans inhumanity. The children's faces are particularly haunting. Edited October 31, 2018 by Bateleur
Ouroboros Posted October 31, 2018 Share #26 Posted October 31, 2018 This is a magnificent documentary portfolio. I hope it does well for you.
dadohead Posted November 1, 2018 Share #27 Posted November 1, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, you've clearly hit the sweet spot with the Q; it's meshing perfectly with your vision. Extraordinary work. I'm always amused when folks claim, "Oh, I can't work with a 28. If only it were 35." Your work is vivid proof, once again, it's not what's on the spec sheet, it's what's between the ears -- the eyes and the brain and maybe a little detour through the heart. Reini Posted November 1, 2018 Share #28 Posted November 1, 2018 I think the black and white pictures have more character of a documentary reportage. They are more dramatic. Yes, it is a dama. The color pictures show that these people can not take their will to live. If you hide the background, it looks like in a world completely unknown to us, like the fairy tale in 'One Thousand and One Nights'. Anyway. Fantastic Photos.
ropo54 Posted November 1, 2018 Share #29 Posted November 1, 2018 I may be the lone dissenter, but I prefer the color images! Either set are fantastic, however. Rob
Kim Dahl Posted November 2, 2018 Share #30 Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) I really like the color images too. It gives the pictures a lot more character and there are some amazing looking colors. I think the colors emphasize the contrast there in the pictures. Edited November 2, 2018 by Kim Dahl
benqui Posted November 2, 2018 Share #31 Posted November 2, 2018 I like both, live can be so easy! Very impressive Giulio! I looked at these pictures for a long time and the longer I look the more details I find. You did a very good job, congratulations!
Wonzo Posted November 2, 2018 Share #32 Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) Extraordinary and very impressive photos, thank you very much for showing ! Some of the b/w photos are more powerful in my opinion but I like them all. Edited November 2, 2018 by Wonzo
giuliomagnifico Posted November 4, 2018 Author Share #33 Posted November 4, 2018 Thanks to all, if someone want to ask something, just do it I'm here to reply! I know, and I agree, that some photos are more powerful in BW, but you have to make a choice: all in colors or all in BW, otherwise the reportage will result "weird" By the way, here'are some of the other best pics caputured with the Q in 2000px with the exif for the Leica Forum Welcome, dear visitor! epand56 Posted November 4, 2018 Share #35 Posted November 4, 2018 Accidenti, Giulio, a breathtaking reportage. And an impressive story inside. Great work!
sblitz Posted November 5, 2018 Share #36 Posted November 5, 2018 I usually think b&w is better, color can prettify the story, but in this case I think it adds .... bravo on using the Q macro for portrait, never thought of that when I had it.... Love the CL as long as I don't need the long tele pics anymore (400mm+), I am thinking about the Q2 . . . . .
Ecar Posted November 7, 2018 Share #37 Posted November 7, 2018 Awesome, awesome work! This is what true photojournalism & storytelling is about. Grazie Giulio! Btw, I can see why you were torn between B&W and colour: both are amazing in this series. FWIW, I have a slight preference for B&W here, as my attention gets more focussed on what really matters: the people and their condition. Yet, I appreciate that perhaps colour adds even more realism to their stories. I don't have a Q, but now I'm thinking...

It works great in macro mode, but you need to go very close to you subject to catche the focus! 23 hours ago, Ecar said: Awesome, awesome work! Yes, I agree with you: colors are more realistic and give you a feel where you can identify yourself with this people (I think). BW are more artistic but less realistic. I had to choosen, and I choosen the color for the reportage and BW for the artistic photos from the street (Q-P now is a must if you like the special editions, or wait for the Q-2 )
