Well, the Fotos App disconnects immediately on my SL, after connecting with the QR code.


 


Even after deleting the previous' app profile, as requested when using the app.


 


Do I need to upgrade to 3.3?


 


FYI: the previous app still works perfectly


 


I cannot find any way to let this know to Wetzlar.

At least since the times of the M9 there has been constant criticism on this forum, that Leica had ready a new product - but you couldn't get it without staying for long times on waiting lists.   Th

I haven’t been able to download the FOTOS app for iOS yet. I signed up on Leica’s page but have not heard back.

 

Where did you find it and for which OS?

 

FW 3.3 probably is needed for FOTOS compatibility.

 

I did get the mail from Wetzlar/Testflght late this afternoon. Will try the FW 3.3. tomorrow.

Fotos App is on an Iphone X here.

There are buttons for bug reports and for suggestions in the app.  Touch the gear in the upper right corner of the first panel that appears.  There is also an automatic usage report that you can enable.  I'm looking at the Android version, but the path to reporting options on the IOS version should be the same.

They seemed surprised by it as well, but I got the impression the App was still so new that they couldn't really comment on it. They seemed somewhat surprised that people were already using it. 

 

When you mention deleting profile from previous app, where is that done? In the General Settings > Profiles I don't see any profile.

The current version crashes on the SL and disconnects the WLAN. Leica are aware of this. 

 

Fotos is a work in progress and is a beta ....... there will be regular updates via testflight and they will get it right eventually.

 

It works almost perfectly with the CL ..... not too bad with the TL, M10, S and Q but there are residual bugs.

 

Leica has valiantly tried to get one unified app that can be used with all their main digital cameras, but it's a tall order.

 

There is also the facility to report bugs etc. and some other things in the pipeline.

 

It has been beta testing for some time ... and a decision was made to release it at Photokina and allow anyone interested to try it with the proviso that it is not the finished version.

 

If you sign up you will get notifications via Testflight when new versions can be downloaded. 

 

Although the official beta has finished I assume I am still bound by the NDA and can't really say much more than that ......  :rolleyes:

David Farkas of Leica Store Miami has a post on the Fotos app on the Red Dot Forum blog: https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2018/09/leica-releases-new-fotos-app-for-wi-fi-connectivity/

 

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the post, there's a chart of camera/firmware compatability for the app. It indicates that FW version 3.3 is required, and that the "Easy Connect" functionality will be added for the SL in November. I don't know if that explains the disconnects, but as Thighslapper says, it's in beta.

I can add the SL to the app, but won’t connect at all.

The app is buggy and currently it's not possible to connect the SL. This is a know issue since a former release of the app but not fixed in the new version 0.24.0. I've already reported this to Leica via the app. You should also do this.

Downloaded Fotos beta this a.m.  Upgraded CL firmware and was irritated to discover that although the install instructions for CL firmware 2.1 state that "the camera will guide you through the backup process of your personal settings," it did not do this. 

 

Once upgraded, the Fotos beta seems to work nicely with the CL.  One thing that bothers me is that when using a phone to control the camera, the Focus Mode is set to Touch AF and this mode persists after the camera is disconnected from the phone.  I'd like it if the mode that was set on the camera previous to connection to Fotos was restored.

 ...... so send them a report from the app .... and they hopefully will sort it.

I have this problem with immediate disconnects with the Leica SL. I gave up on the previous app as it was unreliable in a different way, although it at least let me connect (until the camera went to sleep, then all bets off). Their customer support seemed unaware of it today and insisted I needed to remove the prior profile in settings. I did point out that I'm a registered Apple Developer....

In beta testing a previous incarnation of the SL Fotos app did work but was unstable and crashed after a while. 

 

The current one has solved the 'instability' by not functioning at all. Don't worry, another version will appear soon for you to try. 

 

Welcome to the novel world of 'current user beta testing' ... which seems to be taking things another step closer to us actually writing the software ourselves .....  :rolleyes:

That is exactly what it is - "Damn, I cannot get this software to work - let's release a beta - somebody will sort it"

Followed by: "We'll get the bugs out by updates after we release the final version" :D

The Leica software department was the only one to take this criticism seriously: they release software long times before they are ready.
