Hi Paul, I find this very hard to look at.  Not sure if it’s the lack of sharp focus, the counterveiling flare or the ca.  I’m not saying that to be mean, but where this might be dreamy to some, it makes me want to squint to try to see the image clearly.

The dreamy look of the Summilux 35/1.4 v1 comes mainly from veiling flare and/or focus shift i suspect. Could explain why v2 pics look significantly sharper on mirrorless cameras. Just a feeling though. A7r2 mod, 35/1.4 v2 , f1.4.

It was a particularly hard test for the lens. Flat lighting causing veling flare, plus highlight bleed, plus coma and some sperical aberration and the 'dreamy' wide open look turns rather gruesome. When conditions are right it can be used to really good effect, but one has to be aware that its flaws are not described as flaws for nothing. Jekyll & Hyde.

Here is one with 35lux PreASPH stop down and stitched with m10p

You can't really differentiate the results with modern glass under this condition though I love the muted color if I keep it as color image.

You've got yourself a nice glowy copy. Looks like a V2 from the mid years... not early, not late...

Yes very glowy!  It's from 1981.  Loving it stopped down a bit, and the size.  I'll see how it goes with my M10-R when I get one (or M10-M, can't decide!).

I may try the pre-FLE ASPH too.

The novelty of posting images will wear off... here are some from this evenings waning light.  The novelty of the glow of the Summilux at f/1,4 is starting to wear off a bit :)

At f/2.8 or f/4 I think.  I hadn't noticed any focus shift until now.  I focussed on the gate, but the bricks directly behind seem to be the actual point of focus...

I wasat a baloon festival in the evening, so light was going fast, I was using Portra 160 on my M3, as the light started waning I decrease my shutter speed to about 1/30 and then started opening the aperture. I noticed all the f1.4 images had vignetting. I very seldom use f1.4 and then generally inside. I have had this lens for 40 or so years but this was a new revelation.
