I've got Visoflex EVF for my M10 and was noticing it for several months.  Now I got Zeiss Biogon 25mm (and 28mm) and put on the EVF.  It was dark and Live View was showing on the back display even when selected as EVF in the menu.  I took it off and back on and suddenly it worked.  At some point I swiveled it to point u and it went white.  Looks like the contacts are loose but they seem clean and OK.  Is it typical?

Not typical. I've had it happen a few times where I had to re-seat the EVF but it should operate without errors after that. If it persists, I'd take it to the store.

The EVF for the M10 is not a good product. I have had to put Blu Tack on mine to stop it from rotating upwards of its own volition. When using wide angle lenses, I much prefer the large and ugly 'Frankenfinder'.  Leica might get the accessory electronic viewfinder right some day.

I had some "bugs" with M10 + Visoflex 020 with different misfires:

 - not be able to put 'ON" when in LV by approching my eye (set to "auto")

 - when use in vertical, it shut off while ok when in horizontal

I understand that those bugs come from the multiple tiny contacts in the hot shoe (false contacts).

Some precautions are necessary and the bugs occure less:

- when not in use, cover the hot shoe and Visoflex "shoe", to prevent dust or humidity

- before use, blow/brush the contacts on the M and Visoflex ( plus it's "eye sensor" cleaning )

Those are my practices of small electronic contacts "regular precautions".

Had two. Second one more reliable, but hardly ever switches automatically to evf first time. A quick release and reinsertion solves it for me for the rest of the session. Not worth chasing the correct solution. I’ll use as-is.

It would be advantageous if the device had a power on/off switch. It would allow a reset AND reduce camera battery drain when not required. If I’m using it, I’d rather keep the device on my camera where I can see it, rather than keep taking it off and packing it away.

Not sure I understand. Theres a big button on the back marked 'LV'. Press it with EVF attached, it powers on. Press it again, it powers off. Wont reset things, but otherwise, no battery drain, no shutter delay, etc. Mines attached, but not necessarily used 24/7.

For the record, I've had zero issues with the EVF from a works/doesn't work perspective.

Thanks Tailwagger. I do use the big LV button on the camera body. However that switches the camera mode between live view + EVF if fitted, and OVF only. At the same time it does switch off the Live View. I’d like to keep the EVF fitted, with the ability to sometimes switch off the EVF but still be in Live View mode because metering is different as compared to non-live view. So.... Live view without an active EVF should save some power.

Thanks.

T Live view without an active EVF should save some power.

How is that possible? You are either using the EVF or LCD if you have LV enabled...no power saved.

But if you really want to carry around an EVF you aren't using, you can go into settings and try the following:

Play Target: Display

LV Screen Target: Display

Auto Review Screen Target: Display

Then save this as a profile and call it "EVF Off" or whatever you like.

done.

Personally, I find the experience far better with LV turned off if I dont need LV. The camera is twice as responsive and I prefer classic metering. Dont be fooled by the term "advanced". Try it, you might like it :)
