mich Posted October 5, 2018 Share #81 Posted October 5, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Perhaps it is me, but the bokeh in the shots I have seen in this thread appear a little busy. If V was trying to create a less expensive noctilux experience it looks to me like it didn't work. As an alternative to the 50mm summilux, perhaps, but I have this lens, treasure it, and see no reason to add this Voigtlander to the stable. I don't think that one can compare bokehs from shots that weren't taken under exactly the same conditions. But you are absolutely right about your Summilux. When you own it and like it, then you gain nothing by buying the Voigtländer. I don't own the Summilux, so my first choice for a faster 50mm lens was the VL, of course the price difference was an argument here too. Now that I have tested the lens for a while, I think it is a keeper. No reason for me now to switch it for a Summilux.

That happens with an automatic exif data read-out on Flickr, it will only show the lens, which you manually set in the camera menu(no VL lens option) Edited October 28, 2018 by mich

VinnyTheLens Posted November 4, 2018 Share #90 Posted November 4, 2018 It was just the lens selection that was set in the camera.
VinnyTheLens Posted November 4, 2018 Share #91 Posted November 4, 2018 I think the lens is fantastic value for money for the Leica M body. I am very happy with it.
microview Posted November 21, 2018 Share #92 Posted November 21, 2018 There's a critical appraisal of this lens – albeit on Sony camera – at https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-voigtlander-vm-50mm-1-2-nokton/. Well worth reading versus other vacuous internet 'reviews'. In the UK you can receive 10% cashack for the next four weeks when purchasing new VC lens (most types).

microview Posted November 21, 2018 Share #94 Posted November 21, 2018 Actually, what he says about front focusing rather put me off, as my Leica M doesn't have live view. I did have the 40mm Nokton on an M10 and colour and sharpness were excellent; other forum posts suggest the 50mm is superior.
designdog Posted November 21, 2018 Share #95 Posted November 21, 2018 Really not meaningful to consider performance of a lens designed for the M system as tested on a Sony mount. Unless that is how you plan to use it.

topoxforddoc Posted December 29, 2018 Share #97 Posted December 29, 2018 Got this lens for Christmas. Initial impressions - nicely built, smooth focus, snappy aperture ring. Relatively compact for the fast aperture. Will write more as I get more used to it. Very pleased and a bargain for the money. Our new rescue dog, Ziva - M10 at F1.2 Welcome, dear visitor! topoxforddoc Posted January 24, 2019 Share #99 Posted January 24, 2019 Used it last night at a gig - just love this lens. Yes, the DoF is razor thin at F1.2, but that's why you buy this rather than a Summicron. My good friend Liane Carroll on the piano and Kim Cypher on sax.
