Once again stunning from the DMR, in my view the best images from any Leica Digital Camera, puts the SL, S, Q, and the M system to shame.

Well done.

Gone but not forgotten, Long live the Leica R.

Arianna with the Nikon Z7 II and the Elcan 75/2 @ f2

You will notice a yellowish light tinge ranging from Cream to Maroon.

This is the signature of some vintage Leica R glass and accentuated with the Elcan 75/2

It gives portraits a unique look and this is what attracted me to the Leica R glass.

Or maybe I am whiting in the wind?

Yes you are on the wrong side of the conclusion, in my experience. The yellow will most probably not be caused by the R lenses from that age, which would rather tend to blue. I would first think of the white balance being a bit off because of special conditions.

I was thinking the same, Otto, except that the whites of Arianna's eyes in the third picture look about right (and not jaundiced as they might under incorrect colour-balance).

The skin tones look yellowish but my older R lenses are cooler or bluer but (sadly) I don't have a 75/2 Elcan to compare with.

Pete.

Yeah, best way to sort it out would be perhaps testing the lens with a daylight slide film that you know very well, with daylight captures. So, without any interference of digital influence on the color palette.

My best bet is that the colour variations are due to mixed lighting. I am guessing the pics were made in the dressing room of a theatre where there are typically  various light sources. I perceive that there is an over4lay of yellow from one source (tungsten?) which could be the 'ring' of lights around the makeup mirror. The pinkish or magenta colour is maybe spill from another light source. Lot f speculation there, but my historical experience supports my theory.

Otto - famz > Thank you for your input.

- My experience with the Leicaa R shows a tendency towards yellow with the exception of the Summilux range which is more balanced and on the left K scale.

- En > Thank you for your input.

The shots were taken backstage with no flash but mixed lighting which always creates it's own set of issues. However, in other shoots conditions, the 75/2  would drift towards the right of K. Shots with other R glass as well, albeit to a lesser extent, drifting towards B is not one of them.

I appreciate your experience with R glass skewed towards B. This is a bit surprising and either we have different lenses produced at different years with different coating  and processed with a different application or camera bodies. I shoot Nikon with mostly Leitaxed R glass and process in PS and C1P. Please direct me to the link to look at your pictures with a blue tinge.

Alon I am a little bit confused about the 75.2 R. I have never heard about the 75 f2 in the R series.

I wasn't aware that E.Leitz /CANADA  made that lens for the R series.

Could you enlighten  me on this 75.f2 lens.

Ken.

PS.   Very nice images.

I think I mentioned it in a previous post.

The Elcan 75/2. Elcan stands for Ernst Leitz Canada was very brie fly produced in early 60's and is a rare vintage Leica R lens. It was later morphed into the Summicron 90 AA. I acquired it some time ago for my Leica R glass collection with the Elcan 180/3.4 which morphed to the 180/3.4 APO.

Nothing fantastic except being part of Leica history.

Thank you Alon.

Very interesting, I do have the Canadian 90mmf2 and I must say simply superb.

Remember shooting Kodachrome with it back in the 70's and 80's and it still blows me away by it's images.
