Just had a great evening on Folly Beach, SC, USA with the Leica R APO 180mm f/2.8 and the R APO 2x Extender.  Seems like no loss of contrast and detail and the colors are incredible out of camera.  Just a testament to old R glass! As always, click to see a better image... (sorry, edited to add Leica SL2-S)

It’s great and a big difference with the non-APO which was affordable in the old days but now the APO is also

and the 4/35 PA- Curtagon which is considered poor bit in my opinion is quite good when you place the important things in the canter

the edge is nice soft - I like the style

The PA Curtagon R 35/4 is a very good lens when used for perspective control imaging and within its design parameters, i.e., when 'shifted' to record verticals without convergence, the aperture should be stopped down to at least f8 but preferably f11 – latter when the lens is used with a digital ICL camera and at high ISO, enables use as a very fine handheld 'tool lens'

Star Lane Mews Stamford Lincs., UK – Panasonic S1R / Leitz R PA Curtagon 35/4 ISO 800. 1/320 f11 handheld.

Unfortunately, the latest Leica Pocket Book 9th Edition's descriptions of both the Leitz PA Curtagon 35/4 and Leica PC Super Angulon 28/2.8, both appear to unfairly dismiss the usefulness of perspective control lenses, stating:

"Obviously the appeal of such a lens nowadays is extremely limited due to the capabilities of post-processing software in digital photography."

A somewhat dogmatic statement especially as PC lenses have other uses apart from PC imaging, e.g. panoramic stitching and stealth photography. Personally I regularly use five different PC lenses on Leica and Panasonic digital ICL cameras. I'm aware of several other forum members also making good use of PC lenses. I also use post-processing software for perspective control but much prefer the WYSIWYG 'live view' experience at the composition / taking stage.

Furthermore, both Canon and Nikon continue to manufacture PC lenses in focal lengths from 17mm to 135mm – thus satisfying the demand from those who appreciate their usefulness. And let's not forget that some PC lenses also have a tilt function enabling DOF control.

Laowa and Samyang also design and manufacture PC lenses.

PC lenses obviously do have appeal – contrary to Leica Pocket Book 9th Edition's misleading description!

...... and if you want to use perspective control with film, and don't want to go through the intermediate hassle of scanning, but rather simply print directly .......
