rivi1969 Posted July 12, 2018 Share #41 Posted July 12, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was at lunch with friends and took a few shots with my M-240. Another customer offered to take a shot with my camera so I could be in it. I thanked her but declined. I had no reasonable expectation she would be able to focus using my rangefinder. A pretty pedantic attitude I have to say.
Advertisement Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Hi rivi1969, Take a look here Considering pre-owned M240, need help with lens question as well. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Luke_Miller Posted July 14, 2018 Share #42 Posted July 14, 2018 A pretty pedantic attitude I have to say. Possibly. But since she explained that her experience was with autofocus cameras and I had a +1 diopter on the viewfinder I figured the odds of getting an in-focus shot were low. I was also uncomfortable handing my Leica to a stranger in a public place.
Exodies Posted July 14, 2018 Share #43 Posted July 14, 2018 In such situations you always have to ask yourself “could I outrun her?”
jaapv Posted July 15, 2018 Share #44 Posted July 15, 2018 A pretty pedantic attitude I have to say. Maybe, but a real-life situation that I have experienced quite a few times.
jmahto Posted July 15, 2018 Share #45 Posted July 15, 2018 (edited) A pretty pedantic attitude I have to say. I had similar situation this weekend on a hike. I prefocused and gave the camera to shoot. After she took our picture, she took few steps back to get better framing. Horrified, I shouted instruction to move the focusing tab all the way to infinity (I had 5.6 set on 28). She didn’t understand what is a “tab”. Finally I had to run to her, set it to infinity and run back to be in the picture. But I must say she did a good job! Edit: Forgot to add picture. I had to crop it a little since she didn't understand how to frame within frame lines. Welcome, dear visitor! _Michael Posted July 16, 2018 Author Share #46 Posted July 16, 2018 Great to see the continued dialog. And thanks for posting the sample jmahto. The more I think about this, the more I think that quick snaps/grabs like this might be easily met with a cell phone. As an update to my journey, I am looking hard right now at a very clean top 262 and a Summicron 35 ASPH. So much for jumping in with a low budget

Cell phones today are quite capable and quite handy. However I prefer pictures from a proper camera in bad light conditions because they can be processed to one's liking before falling apart. The pic above was taken in a very overcast and flat sky. I have cell phone shots of this time too and the bright stones in the lake (and sky and its reflection in water, when it is in picture) are totally washed out. You are also right in starting with a used M body and one lens. I think best way to use (and enjoy) M is to keep it simple. Gregm61 Posted July 20, 2018 Share #49 Posted July 20, 2018 VERY nice camera. Had mine now for 2.5 years. First Leica M I ever purchased brand new, pairing it now with an MP240.

_Michael Posted September 1, 2018 Author Share #51 Posted September 1, 2018 Michael how are you getting along with your camera? Thx Simon Thanks for asking Simon. I’ve been enjoying the process so far. Some good, some less positive, some moments of what the heck! Here is a post I put up with some throughts so far. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/288126-some-initial-observations-with-my-move-into-leica-262/ Cheers
