Elpro?

Yes, a remnant from my LeicaFlex gear, I have two of them, V1a and V1b. Close and closer if you like.

They are an M44 thread, and usually screw onto the front of my old 50mm Summicron R, which has the M44 filter thread.

I located an M44 (female) ring, and epoxied it to an old M52 filter. DIY at its best, not pretty but functional. So it allows closer imaging with the standard 18-56mm.

I'd use my 100mm Macro Apo R lens if I could but all I have is third party R-L adapters, and they won't allow focus magnification (to my knowledge, and I can't make it work, try as I did).

When I forget to take my Sigma 2.8 - 105 mm macro lens, I can still make beautiful macros with my CL and the 18-56.

I can use different close-ups (which are always in my bag because they are small and very easy to store) that screw directly onto the zoom and allow a significant magnification at a lower price. Especially if you do not want to buy the very expensive Leica Elpro 52 close-up...

For example, I use without problem the Raynox 250 close-up (8 diopters), or the Raynox 150 (4.8 diopters), or a Canon 250 D close-up (4 diopters). Their price is very affordable and the image quality is excellent.

This is a croton, made with my digital CL outfitted with the marvelous 60mm APO Elmarit. This lens opened me up to exploring botanicals in a much more serious way. I prefer to shoot fairly wide open and go for creamy, shallow depth of field

Nice use of selective focus! Those green fangs really pop!

Thanks, they’re pretty common but I didn’t know about the green until yesterday…

Hello,

I really like your photo, especially its composition and the colors ! 👍😀
I also have a Sigma 105 Macro Art for my CL. I was wondering if the lens-camera assembly was attached to your tripod with just the nut under the CL, or if you were able to find a tripod collar (which I did).

Hello,

I'm wondering if your Sigma 105-Leica CL assembly is secured simply by the nut under the CL.
Or if you were able to find a tripod collar for the Sigma, or a rail to prevent the weight of the 105 from resting solely on the CL's bayonet?

Thanks.

I have a tripod collar for the Sigma 105mm – the Leica STA-1 (code 14636) collar intended for the Leica R 100/2.8 APO Macro lens, fits the Sigma 105 – but on this occasion I did not use it. I was using a Linhof ball head with a 'quick release' plate - the plate secured to the camera base 1/4" tripod thread. The Sigma 105mm  is not so heavy as to 'unbalance' the camera / lens combination – or put too much leverage onto the CL's lens mount. Because I was using manual focus, I was also 'gripping the lens' with two fingers whilst focusing – with the camera supported on the ball head. I prefer to use manual focus for close-up imaging. I'd also roughly pre-focused on the flower and waited for the bees and other insects to fly onto the specimen. Additional similar pix are posted in TLF Photo Forum / Nature & Wildlife / The Flower Thread.

The 'composition' is the result of 'cropping'.

OK, thank you very much for this precise answer.

I tried to find a STA-1 (14636) but gave up because I couldn't find it during my search.
However, does it fit the Sigma well without overtightening, and is the lens release button on the CL accessible ?

I sometimes use a small rail about ten centimeters long attached under the CL, with the Sigma barrel resting on the other end of the rail. This balances the weight of the lens (715 g).
However, I managed to find a tripod collar with an Arca Swiss plate that fits well with the 105 without having to overtighten.

I'll try looking for a STA-1 again...

STA-1 is not a perfect fit but with care it's usable (just). To access the camera lens release button with the STA-1 attached requires 'loosening' the STA-1 collar's tightening screw and pressing the then partially visible release button with your thumb nail.

Use at your own risk.

STA-1 is a very scarce Leica accessory and usually commands a premium price.
