Folks, a nuts and bolts sort of question here. I want to have some sort of macro setup for my CL and TL2 (I've thought about macro with my M10, but I know that's far from ideal for macro).

Not sure working distance is that important to me, but I do want at least 1:1 image magnification. I know the 60mm is.a great lens (only TL lens I don't have) but is it the best approach and value for the CL? I have seen the 2 Sigmas, and I see several images posted taken with the Nikon 105. Then the ELPRO approach on a bunch of pics as well. I love really sharp, crisp macro shots with good color.

Just putting a feeler out to see what setup people are finding the best all around.

Thanks,

Chuck

I'd be interested as well. I'm not keen on close up lenses and extension tubes mainly because I seem to constantly be changing focus range. I use a Sigma 105 f2.8 on my Sony FF but of  course it can't adapt to CL. I mainly use a venerable Olympus OM 50mm macro on the rare occasions that I use the CL for macro work but the fixed screen and lack of remote trigger  port which means the stepper rail can't trigger it make it less than ideal (yes, I have tried Fotos app)

I'm trying to find a way to use the CL kit zoom for close focus work (not 1:1 macro) Basically just for moths, butterflies and individual flower heads. I took these test images of a small circuit board, about 2.8 x 1.9 inches, the hole spacing is a quite accurate 0.1 inch. I know its a boring subject but makes assessing the image easier than a 3d subject.

Picture 1. Zoom at 47mm (was meant to be 50mm!) Closest achievable focus.

Picture 2 As above but with Sigma Achromat close up lens (about 1.6 dioptre)

Picture 3 50mm Olympus OM 50mm f3.5 macro lens (about 40yrs old). Circuit board not quit parallel to film plane hence right hand image softness.

Picture 4 Zoom with cheap 10 dioptre 'macro' lens. Note field curvature and poor edges/corners. This on APS-c , imagine it on full frame!

Conclusion: Sigma Achromat does decent job at low cost, typically under £20. Might be worth stacking two for approx 3 dioptre magnification. Not sure if expensive Elpro would be a lot better, 52mm Elpros quite expensive.

If you are wiling to change lens and work completely manually legacy macro lenses like the OM still high quality and good value for money.
