Dog in stroller.

To go with my earlier photo of the dog with a wheelchair, here is a spaniel in a stroller meeting a greyhound in an overcoat.  It was a good day for watching dogs at the Pike Place Market.

Leica MP w/50mm Summicron DR lens on Ilford HP5+ pushed to ISO 1600 dev. in Rodinal 1:25 for 11 minutes at 20C.

I've always had a difficult time appreciating Rodinal-developed photos but I say this without ever having seen one in print. Does it look different/better print in hand?

These days I only do hybrid processing so I've made ink jet prints from the scans of Rodinal negatives and they have been quite good, not really different from my HC110 based prints. Mostly I aim for good rich blacks and shadow detail in my prints so I adjust development and processing to that end.  I haven't used Rodinal that much until just a few months ago but so far I've been pleased with the results.

Not sure if this will be of help . Here is a quick and dirty negative scan along with a scan of a darkroom print. Trix in rodinal 1:50. I only did a few rolls so far but I like it quite a lot.

More proof that film really is at its best printed in a darkroom. It’s a good scan, and a lovely print.

Hi @Steven,

Would you mind sharing a bit more about the camera, lens and if you remember the aperture and what you focused on.

I am trying to do some empty street shots in low light these days and not to sure what to focus on (shooting a 35mm at f1.4-f2).

thanks a lot!
nice shot 😊

Hi Aryel,

Not my photo but a couple of quick comments. I don't know your photography background, particularly with respect to manual focus lenses so please take this in a positive way.

Depth of focus is roughly one third in front and two thirds behind the point of focus and of course varies greatly with the aperture.  Zone focusing is the method of focusing using the depth of field scale etched onto the lens (and sadly missing from most modern autofocus lenses).  On the lens barrel look at the depth of field indications for a given f-stop and set your focal point so that your intended area of focus is about 1/3 of the range shown, then you can see the nearest a furtherest areas which will be acceptably sharp in your image. Alternatively pick a point to focus on and then read where the focus will be acceptable from the lens barrel.

Hope this helps,

Dave
