mickjazz Posted February 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a couple of the table top tripods and I like them. Mine have ball heads some of which are Leitz. Started to look for one for my brother in law and discovered all the variations in not only the ball head type but the tripods some with feet and some no feet and different paint color Is there a list somewhere with the tripod variants and descriptions? Thanks
Advertisement Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Hi mickjazz, Take a look here Leitz Tabletop Tripod and Ballheads. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Pyrogallol Posted February 24, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2018 The ball and socket heads make a nice collecting item, I have a few, with different screw fittings and in different sizes. The early ones look best and are very usable as well. As for the small table top tripods, I have not seen any list of variations, I think there are just variations over time, feet and paint finish etc.

pico Posted February 24, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 24, 2018 (edited) I have a couple of the table top tripods and I like them. Mine have ball heads some of which are Leitz. The Leitz KGOON is my favorite because it has both 1/4" and 3/8" threads at each end. If your camera or tripod or table-pod requires 1/4", the 3/8" threads withdraw automatically to use the 1/4". It's a very useful feature. I do not know if it is still offered, but they are out there. If I have the wrong product ID, I hope someone will correct me. Mine is the tall head with a "D" mark one one side. It is not the short head. Edited February 24, 2018 by pico

alan mcfall Posted February 25, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2018 A few table tripods, including the TOOSF early model and a late leather case for the tripod with ball head included. The TOOUG, lower right, was available with long or short legs. Welcome, dear visitor! Pyrogallol Posted February 27, 2018 Share #8 Posted February 27, 2018 These are three of my ball & socket heads Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I have a later small black version as well, but it does not look as good as the older chrome ones and 3 make a better composition in a photo. I have had a few of the large ones but have not kept them, I like the smaller ones best and they are just as secure.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Reini Posted February 27, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 27, 2018 I don"t understand, why is the big one so big and heavy. The smallest does the same job. Or not?
TomB_tx Posted February 27, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 27, 2018 I don"t understand, why is the big one so big and heavy. The smallest does the same job. Or not? Because of the way the tripod socket is located on film Leicas, the large head gives more clearance for orienting the camera when used on the tabletop legs. Here's the large head 14168 i bought new in 1969 for $20.40: Welcome, dear visitor! UliWer Posted March 2, 2018 Share #14 Posted March 2, 2018 Did you ever try to loosen the screws on the bottom? The KGOON has a knurled ring at the bottom you can easily unscrew and change the tripod connection for the different sizes.

Just checking, but are you sure the head's threads do not recede to 3/8" ?
Reini Posted March 2, 2018 Share #18 Posted March 2, 2018 The inner 1/4 threaded tube was just too tight in the 3/8 thread. After a few strokes, it can be pressed into the spring plate. I am surprised about this function!
Leicapasion Posted April 4, 2018 Share #19 Posted April 4, 2018 I want to complete my tripod head collection. Do you believe that this can be the Leitz Fiaku 1926 ?. I need the opinion of the experts. Thank you very much. Welcome, dear visitor! Michael Hiles Posted April 4, 2018 Share #20 Posted April 4, 2018 Both the top and bottom of my large head can be reversed for 3/8 or 1/4. My unit is very strong - I have had it hold a Linhof Super Technica.
