Csacwp Posted December 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a handful of M lenses I’d like to sell. Does anybody have experience doing this, and who would offer the best price? I want to avoid ebay.

Peter Kilmister Posted December 17, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2017 There is a buy and sell section of this Leica User Forum.
Csacwp Posted December 17, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted December 17, 2017 Yes, but I cannot access it without becoming a premium member. I am also located in the USA and most people on the forum are in Europe. I was hoping to get a recommendation for a store in the USA that purchases used lenses. spydrxx Posted December 17, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 17, 2017 Remember when selling to a store that your offered price will be somewhere between 50-70% of the value you might get by other methods to allow for dealer profitability & markup. KEH is the best I've used, also Roberts Photo in Indianapolis. I'm not sure why you are avoiding Ebay, which would give you widest exposure and probably the best price. We have a great number of members on all continents with the possible exception of Antarctica.

You might ask him if he bought or sold any Leitz/Leica gear when he was there. You might be able to reclassify the Buy & Sell section as a genuinely Worldwide Marketplace if he did. Best Regards, Michael
Jeff S Posted December 22, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Popflash gives 80% of selling price, and they also list online at a modestly higher price to cover their fees. RayD28 Posted January 6, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 6, 2018 I'm not sure why you are avoiding Ebay, which would give you widest exposure and probably the best price. I wonder the same thing?
Luke_Miller Posted January 6, 2018 Share #9 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Plus One for Popflash. The last time I listed camera equipment on eBay I got scammer bids and had to close the auctions. Now all my sales are via "items for sale" pages of camera fora or Popflash Edited January 6, 2018 by Luke_Miller
albertknappmd Posted January 6, 2018 Share #10 Posted January 6, 2018 David Farkas at Leica store Miami has been very fair in the past. Would recommend him w/o reservation. Albert
andybarton Posted January 6, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 6, 2018 Loads of good reasons why anyone would want to avoid eBay. Selling via a dealer and paying the commission is completely hassle-free.
Tante Ilse Posted January 6, 2018 Share #12 Posted January 6, 2018 I have never made any bad experience when buying stuff on ebay, even if the goods came from China, Japan or the USA.
Luke_Miller Posted January 6, 2018 Share #13 Posted January 6, 2018 I have never made any bad experience when buying stuff on ebay, even if the goods came from China, Japan or the USA. Neither have I. I still buy from eBay, but I don't sell due to bad experience
earleygallery Posted January 6, 2018 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2018 Loads of good reasons why anyone would want to avoid eBay. Selling via a dealer and paying the commission is completely hassle-free. I have heard of instances where a dealer has gone under or just closed up (in one case due to their bereavement) and much hassle for owners of equipment held for sale or repair to be recovered. Nothing is risk free.
Peter Kilmister Posted January 6, 2018 Share #15 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Earlier in this thread I did point out that there is a buy and sell section of this forum. I have used it to good effect. I sold an M240 after I had bought my M-P 240 via eBay. The buyer was easy to deal with and paid via Bank Giro Credit (BGC) so no PayPal or eBay charges. The cost was minimal using this site. Subsequently I sold a 50mm Noctilux 0.95 with a part exchange for an APO 50mm Summicron. The difference was paid into my account via BGC. This was done offline with another forum user, however I did the honest thing and contacted Andreas who told me the charge was the usual minimum amount ... which I paid. So much easier than eBay, so much easier than any other way. I recommend it because the world may appear to be full of rogues and cads, but most people in the world are honest and this website is full of honest people. Well done, LUF, you provide a brilliant service. Edited January 6, 2018 by Peter Kilmister
Guest Posted January 6, 2018 Share #16 Posted January 6, 2018 Loads of good reasons why anyone would want to avoid eBay. Selling via a dealer and paying the commission is completely hassle-free. So is EBay if the seller take a little time to do it properly. Many dealers clear stock using eBay without having problems. The hundreds of thousands who use eBay with no problems can,t all be wrong. james.liam Posted January 7, 2018 Share #18 Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) In the US, I'd recommend Popflash Photo in Los Angeles. The fee is 20% of the selling price and the items are priced reasonably. Tony Rose, the proprietor, has a great reputation of standing by the things he sells so it won't linger. You're not likely to get a better price just selling it to a retailer. KEH is a great place to buy, not so much selling to. The low-ball offers may shock you. KEH is a great place to buy, not so much selling to. The low-ball offers may shock you. I've sold a few items to KEH and explained to them nicely their offer was too low and they came back with a better price. All the items were extremely clean and one of them I bought from them. On average about 15% higher then their original offer. Ray
earleygallery Posted January 7, 2018 Share #20 Posted January 7, 2018 I tried the B&S forum in the past and listed a relatively sought after lens for a good price. I had a lot of emails about it, which I took a lot of time to respond to. I had two 'firm offers' which I accepted never to hear from them again. It also seems that people ask top price but offer very low. That's my impression anyway.
