Because some idiot at leica thought it was a nice thing to do. Press the up or down arrow to change them. They are supposed to be alternative formats. Like 4:3. It’s not in the Manual because it was added in a firmware update later. When they first appeared I put in a feature request to be able to disable them entirely, but to no avail. I also find them annoying!!!

That's fixed it, thanks S.

Ah yes. Is everyone who builds something you don't need an idiot, or just this particular person, and how do you know that?

A pointless feature, poorly implemented. See my post on the EVF. Judge ye by the fruits of their labor. Ie: an idiot

Pointless to you. You are not the standard by which every user of every device is judged. Poorly implemented? It does what it is supposed to do.

So watch where you put your fingers and don't press the lower arrow button... Actually, it is quite practical to preview the 16:9 video format, or to synchronize the images with a 4/3rds camera you might be using at the same time, to name but a few uses.

Was this feature carried over to the M10? Video wasn’t so just how useful is this again?

There is no off switch for it! That’s my complaint.

They put electronic frame lines on a camera with no frame selector for a feature that has no effect on the image and which every image processing software provides.

The 16:9 lines are still useful if you carry a video (enabled) camera over your other shoulder. There is an off-switch. The arrow buttons....

If an option is not useful to you, simply don't use it.

The EVF has no effect on the image, either, and neither has the LCD. Still, most users prefer cameras with LCDs and/or EVFs.

Sounds like a good feature for the SL. The M240 is not a pro-grade video. But have you used this feature?

Look Jaap, your the last person I’d expect this argument from. When the M240 was released, didn’t you make the argument that it didn’t matter if the camera had all these new features as you could disable the M and LV buttons in settings? That’s all I’m asking about this poorly documented feature too.

Let them buy an SL, it’s now cheaper than a M10 and provides much better video.

I only use EVF for R lenses and macro and using it for those purposes EVF/LV has a major impact on the image. Unless you don’t care for focusing.

You couldn't when it was released - that was a -much later- firmware update. So no, I did not make that argument when it was released.

I like this feature since I prefer 16:9 crops. It helps me visualize how the final crop will look like.

Even if it can be triggered accidentally, I like the implementation since it is easy to toggle between different framing without moving my finger placement too much.
