Wow! It seems many times when I post image on this forum it erupts a storm. On the one hand I am glad people occasionally  notice my images, on the other hand the emotions seem to be upsetting some. Too many times IMO.

I guess this is the end for me posting images here. It is not my intent to upset anyone. I shall move my simple talents elsewhere.

Please don't take that view and deprive us of your wonderful pictures, erl.  This was a storm in a teacup caused by a misunderstanding by one member - the rest of us really like your photographs!

Pete.

After looking at the photograph and thinking about it and its title, I do not see a disrespectful or offensive implication; it is simply a photograph of a girl walking down the street, that's all.

"simply a photograph of a girl walking down the street, that's all."

So a photo of a young woman taken in a blatant red light area and titled "street girl" (aka hooker, streetwalker, floozie, etc) isn't disrespectful or insulting?

You're kidding, right?

It looks like just a street scene from Kowloon to me.

But then again, I have not, uh, "shopped" extensively in red light areas (as in not at all).  Perhaps you have?

I did an extensive photo project on marginalisation etc in West Kowloon years ago...it's was featured on the Leica Blog.

We, in LUF enjoy pictures, not titles. To share your culture instead of speading it, you could suggest  Erl change his text by "girl in the street" to avoid misinterpretation from narrow minded-viewer. Let him benefit of doubt.

Anyway, if you don't like the photo, just keep on going, if you don't like the title, continue ...

Quite apart from the question whether we can require an intimate knowledge of slang from any forum member,  I see no forum rule against photographing any profession, nor one against photographing in red light areas.

I do see a forum rule against fighting and attacks against other forum members, moderators or not.

If this silliness does not stop here and now, we will have to take moderating action.

Please don't stop John. The Forum would be a darker place without your work.

For the expressions of support, I thank you all.

A little bit of history to explain my position. Back awhile, I felt the need to change my forum name because I was being stalked by another member. Whenever I posted pictures, he criticism me (not my pictures). Hence I dumped my real name and assumed the abbreviated version of my middle name (erl). Not too long ago I was severely abused for posting a particular image of my dog, a German Shepherd, in full flight towards the camera. I was told it was 'vicious' and other terrible things. And now this recent episode relating to 'Street Girl'.

Let's be clear I have absolutely no problem with criticism of any of my images, whatever the opinion. All is fair game. What upsets me is when the tirade is turned on me personally. I don't believe any of my images, posted or otherwise, have been judgemental of the subject(s). I document what I see as the truth. How well I do that is freely open to criticism, but NOT my motives.

For some time I have been suffering from a disease, partly caused, and certainly exacerbated by stress. Vigorous debate and the like is fine IMO, but outright personal abuse is off the radar for me. Currently I am sitting on the right side of a fine balance and I want to remain there as long as I can. Consequently, I walk away from direct confrontation/abuse. Hence my withdrawal from posting images because I can't find it in me to censor what I produce. The result would be 'vanilla', which is not the real me, or the real world I see.

I hope this shines some light on where I am at.

That is WAY beyond the pale - being stalked and verbally abused by another forum member??  Was that forum member blocked from ever posting again?  If not, they certainly should have been.

As for the photo of your German Shepherd - I did not see the photo, but I have a good idea that the person who verbally abused you was "full of it" as they say regarding the supposed viciousness of your photo.  JMHO, but that person should have been blocked from posting, too - or at minimum been given a 30 day suspension from being able to post, given that verbal abuse of other members is supposedly not tolerated on this forum.

Would you kindly re-post the above mentioned photo of your German Shepherd, or PM me a link to it?  I'd like to see the image, if possible.  😊
