nasty & not very gracious to identify someone as a "street girl"

Summer in the City. Rainy evening, South Bank, London. M10  + 50mm Summicron. A rare foray into colour for me, but I felt this was one that wouldn't work as well in mono.

That entirely depends on your interpretation of the term "street girl" doesn't it?  It could be as innocent as simply a girl photographed on a street.  Any further inference about the girl is made by the viewer and says more about the viewer than the photographer.  When I looked at the picture I didn't note any subtext that was nasty or ungracious.

Pete.

the photo was taken at a corner of Temple Street in HK where sex workers are prevalent...and I suspect the photographer was aware of this. And the meaning of the title is fairly clear.

Nasty.

I don't know Hong Kong so I wouldn't know where the sex trade does its business and it's not obvious to a visitor from the surroundings.  You are assuming that erl knew that this is such an area but knowing erl personally I think it extremely unlikely that he would disrespect a person in this way or photograph a sex worker if he was aware that they were.

You see it as "nasty" but I see it as a photo of a girl on a street, nothing more.  I think you're reading too much into it.

Pete.

To Weevil (should I weave something into that name?), I say, study my photo, it is very much a street/landscape image, containing a girl, who contrasts visually with the environment. Enough to attract my camera. As for the location, you claim to have been 'looking over my shoulder', apparently. I certainly don't know where it is (address wise). A moment later I was photographing Jade Dealers. If I posted them I dare say you would accuse me of breaching 'Commercial In Confidence', or something similar.

The image below the one that upsets you is titled 'Street Baby'. I suppose you have an issue with that too! 🤨

As far as I am concerned, if I can see it on the street, I can shoot it, provided I have caused no one personal harm or distress in any way.

As for "nasty". That is all your personal thoughts.

I think it's fairly obvious that the title isn't 'nasty' when you see the title of the picture a post or two later, which is "street baby, Kowloon"

It’s not about what you’d shoot, it’s about your cheap and disrespectful title.

i suppose you also title photos of men in a similar way? Of course not.

I've tried to reasonably explain why I don't think the title of the picture is offensive and you respond with an insult?  I find that unacceptable.

After looking at the photograph and thinking about it and its title, I do not see a disrespectful or offensive implication; it is simply a photograph of a girl walking down the street, that's all.

There are not monsters lurking around every corner - except in some people's minds.
