The example I got was well made and works perfect- and still works perfect a few years later. I calibrated mine for the wide apertures (I put it in between the 1.1 and 1.4 markings). From then on, I suspect focus shift is responsible for the mushiness. I once ordered a VM35 1.2 II only open the box to a copy with aperture blades all loose and out of place. Returned and bought another one, all fine.
