Advertisement Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Hi Ecar, Take a look here 7artisans 50mm F1.1 Leica M Mount. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 10, 2017 Share #82 Posted July 10, 2017 The edges and corners in the second shot look rather iffy. Not a problem, if you compose for it though.

Ecar Posted July 10, 2017 Share #84 Posted July 10, 2017 The edges and corners in the second shot look rather iffy. Not a problem, if you compose for it though. Yes, pretty mushy aren't they?
jaapv Posted July 10, 2017 Share #85 Posted July 10, 2017 Might be a nice lens to use on APS-C, or even as a very fast 100 on MFT.
Ecar Posted July 10, 2017 Share #86 Posted July 10, 2017 Based on sample pictures previously posted, corners/edges should improve when you stop down. Not worse than some of the vintage glass I enjoy using anyway. And did I say cheaper? I'll do more tests later. Ideally, if time allows, I could try and do a comparison with other fast fifties. Definitely not an IQ monster but, I must admit the lens is somewhat above my (low) initial expectations.

Ecar Posted July 10, 2017 Share #88 Posted July 10, 2017 Hi Neil, Actually, there's at least one picture taken at f/5.6 in this thread. I may add some when I have time. As is the case for most lenses, it should look decent @ f/5.6 and above. Anyway, it's too cheap to be worthy of your consideration
sblutter Posted July 10, 2017 Share #89 Posted July 10, 2017 +1 for a used Summi 50. Just gorgeous rendering. A decent copy (ver 3 or 4) on Ebay should be about $1300USD

If it can render nicely then it's worth whatever the price is if your okay with that price. But looking at the pictures so far my Elmar M out shines it by ten fold which is a shame as it actually looks quite nice.
amansjeanphilippe Posted July 10, 2017 Share #92 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) Hello I receive mine too, with same unexpected such good quality... I do some test F1.1 and F5.6 with M-240 point of focus in the center F1.1 (2m) F5.6 F1.1 (50m) F5.6 I do another test for axial chromaticism: with Monochrom V1, I take tow pictures at F1.1 with and without B+W 092 and can't see any defocus in IR or visible light with B+W 092 without filter My first conclusion: Very good for the price, a must-have good "profile" wide open (like Canon F0.95 but with more contrast) good quality at F5.6 (but who take pictures such closed?) well made even not at leica level (lens is coded) diaph and focus ring engraved but not front ring with number which is printed. very good idea to allow manual setting of telemeter came and focus ring (I'd do that for my Canon F0.95, it is very smart) Bad point: no sunshade rear lens group go too far in the cap and need to be focus at 2m or less to fit standard leica-M cap J.Ph. But looking at the pictures so far my Elmar M out shines it by ten fold which is a shame as it actually looks quite nice. I know what you are saying, but one doesn't always need the best available IQ. Sometimes, a cheap lens that you can use in very low light and bang around in the street without worrying about it can be useful. At least for me. Alongside some of Leica's latest and greatest, I also own a fair bunch of really cheap old lenses, but some are hard to replace (eg, a good, clean and properly adjusted copy of the J-3), so I'm pretty happy that I now have an easily replaceable fast 50 when I need it, even if the IQ is not great. Re the Elmar: of course it is better, not to mention lighter and smaller, but it's also only f/2.8. And what, 3-4 times more expensive? Btw, I love my Elmar too...

You may have the aperture numbers inverted in #3 and 4. And #4 doesn't look pretty - edges look even worse than in my tests... Did you set the 6-bit code to Auto? Was it recognised? adan Posted July 10, 2017 Share #95 Posted July 10, 2017 Focuses to 0.7 meters - right off the bat, that puts this lens 'way ahead of most of the other options mentioned here, in my book. Not that I use 0.7 meters all that much as such, but I hate running into the 1-meter limit on the Noctis or older Summiluxes/Summarit 1.5 or Canons. And, of course, there is a reason for f/1.1 beyond "pretty backgrounds." Photographing in zero light. Image quality? I learned years ago from Robert Capa and Robert Frank and Josef Koudelka that there's a big difference between "technically perfect photographs" and "photographs that will be in the galleries and photo history books 50/100 years from now." Even Ansel Adams said, "I prefer a fuzzy picture of a sharp concept to a sharp picture of a fuzzy concept." Anyway, I'm not generally a 50mm user. But I might consider this one, for when the light gets really dim. Interesting point about the rear cap - the Leica 21 and 28 M from the 1960s needed their own deep rear caps, as well.

Was it recognised? yes, I inverse... #3 F5.6 and #4 F1.1 the #4 is over exposed by 2EV due to sun, iso320 and 1/4000s M-240 limitations... Monochrom recognise it (M-240 was set on manual select) J.Ph.
